What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Ecology Project Associate (Southeast) position at Resource Environmental Solutions LLC?
RES is currently accepting applications for a Summer Ecology Project Associate in our Athens, GA office. The assignment typically runs from May-August, but the duration is negotiable based on your schedule. This is a full-time position; consisting of a workweek of 40 hours.

Our belief made us what we are today - the nation’s leading ecological restoration company, with over 300 stream miles restored and conserved, 20,000,000 trees planted, and 15,000 acres of special-status species habitat established.
The Mission: You will work with ecologist, engineers and regulatory personnel to perform all aspects of fieldwork and assist with data entry and compilation of technical reports, under the supervision of a member of the ecology team.
You will learn about:
- Stream mitigation in Georgia
- Stream restoration practices
- Basics of fluvial geomorphology and how it applies to stream restoration
- Riparian vegetation and restoration plantings
You will learn how to:
- Utilize survey equipment to conduct stream geomorphic surveys and identify and calculate morphologically significant parameters
- Use GPS and/or other field-based mobile applications to collect field data
- Conduct stream flow-, flood-, and groundwater-related measurements, and download gauge devices
- Identify Georgia native vegetation, especially trees
- Identify exotic invasive vegetation
Around 75% of your time you will be in the field! You will learn how to collect a variety of field data, including delineating streams and wetlands, monitoring vegetation, conducting biological and geomorphic stream surveys, and performing hydrologic monitoring!
Please be advised that we perform these tasks come rain or come shine and that working outside in harsh and adverse weather conditions (including both cold and hot environments) is part of the routine. You will also be walking long distances, traversing difficult terrain through thick vegetation, climbing, bending, lifting heavy objects, and performing other physical activities. We have projects all over the state of Georgia, so extensive travel with overnight stays is often required.
Around 25% of your time, you will be assisting in office work. You will be dealing with data entry and technical report preparation, as well as other restoration site maintenance and management tasks, so be ready to showcase your technical writing, communication skills, and attention to detail during the interview!

- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology, Natural Resource Management, or a related field
- Ability to interpret environmental assessments
- Ability to interpret field maps
- Plant identification skills

- Academic or professional experience directly related to ecological restoration
