RES is currently hiring for a Survey Technician position in our Swannanoa, NC office. This person will work in support of the Land Surveying Supervisor and be responsible for assisting their assigned survey crew chief in collecting survey field data in the region. Tasks for this role will include, but are not limited to, operation of survey field equipment, maintenance of survey field equipment and field vehicle, and assigned tasks to support field data collection and land surveying related to the mapping and support of RES design, construction, and ecology operations in NC, KY, and TN. The ideal candidate will have 1-2 years of experience in field surveying. Any experience in stream and wetland restoration is a plus. On the job training will be provided to successful candidates to increase team functionality, job performance, and knowledge base in land surveying and environmental restoration.
What your day-to-day might look like?
This position will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Directly reports to the assigned survey crew chief and functions with same as a team in support of the Land Surveying Supervisor in providing field data through all stages of project development
- Assist in the collection of field data including topography, site features, property structures, engineering data, and environmental data by implementing industry standard surveying practices, company policies, and professional standards
- Assist in the conduct of construction survey activities, including but not limited to, stake out and as-built surveys to a company and professional standard
- Assist in the marking and maintenance of RES conservation easements as required
- Assist in the download and delivery of field data to the Land Surveying Supervisor as directed by the assigned survey crew chief
- THIS IS A POSITION REQUIRING WEEKLY TRAVELLING. The field crew will be expected to travel each week to the state and project sites required by the Land Surveying Supervisor. At times the crew will be assigned local jobs, at other times jobs within the state of NC, and when necessary, the crew will travel to KY and TN
- Ability to work in all kinds of challenging and rugged field conditions in all types of weather, including but not limited to, streams and wetlands
- Ability to carry at least 50 pounds on the back and walk up to 4 miles a day
- Ability to adhere to high professional standards of environmental health and personal safety
Qualifications
WE WOULD LIKE TO TALK TO YOU IF YOU HAVE MANY OF THE FOLLOWING:
- 1-2 years of field surveying experience (boundary, topographical, mapping and/or stake out will apply)Familiarity with traversing, GNSS control networks and survey equipment maintenance is a plus. Successful candidates that possess strong drive and initiative will be provided opportunities through hands on and other training to increase their land surveying knowledge
- Familiarity with Spectra-Precision surveying equipment including:
- SP85 GNSS receivers
- Focus 35 robotic total stations
- Ranger data collectors
- Survey Pro data collection software
- Any certification or license is a plus
- Possess a valid driver’s license
