RMC is hiring Writer-Editor I to support the Public Affairs / Corporate Communications Division at NSWC Indian Head. The selected candidate must have strong writing skills to assist in the planning, writing and editing of feature news and technical articles, internal communications, reports and presentations for release to interested internal or external audiences. Assist is the production of printed materials. In addition, have the ability to build relationships throughout the command as well as with the media and external stakeholders. The candidate may also support special events and tours/visits that support the NSWC IHD Corporate Communications Division.
Products supported by the Writer-Editor include editing and preparing annual command publication, bi-weekly and monthly newsletters, press releases, reports, scripts, agendas, articles, fact sheets, PowerPoint briefs, website content, social media posts, digital signage posts, visitor packages, and other directly related Public Affairs materials. Lastly, assist the Director and the Public Affairs Officer with internal messages to NSWC IHD’s workforce as well as state of the base events to all departments.
Requirements
Requirements for the position include:
- A Bachelor’s degree and at least three (3) years of relevant experience, or an Associate’s degree and five (5) years of relevant experience.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Suite and standard office equipment.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Demonstrated professional experience writing and editing articles, press releases or other written content describing complex scientific or technical topics.
- Demonstrated experience using Associated Press (AP) Stylebook.
- Some travel is required, less than 10%
Experience or working knowledge of layout and design programs and principles along with Photoshop is preferred, but not required.
Security Clearance: An active DoD security clearance is required to start. Applicant selected may be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Salary at RMC is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, a candidate's specific combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific requirements. The current salary range for this position will be $55,000 to $60,000 annually.
