Travel Demand Modeling, Consultant

RSG seeks a talented and versatile travel modeler to develop and apply travel forecasting models.

As a Consultant or Senior Consultant specializing in the development and application of forecasting tools and data products, you support US transportation agencies as they navigate the rapidly evolving world of mobility. You contribute to business development and management of travel demand model development and application projects, while playing a critical role in expanding RSG’s footprint within U.S. transportation agencies. You will leverage your extensive network and deep understanding of the transportation sector to drive business growth, develop strategic partnerships, and oversee the successful execution of high-impact projects. This role requires a strategic thinker with a proven technical track record, as well as a passion for improving transportation systems through the development and application of state of the practice and advanced travel demand models.

You work with a variety of datasets, including smartphone travel surveys, passively collected location data, commercial marketing data, public demographic data, and geospatial data. You use GIS, travel modeling, and general programming software. You estimate, implement, calibrate, and apply both traditional trip-based and advanced activity-based travel models and incorporate next-generation data-driven modeling techniques.

You are a self-motivated team player who has both practical skills and a solid theoretical foundation in travel forecasting, network modeling, statistics, and data analysis. You work well with clients and possess good interpersonal skills to represent the company, including by being amiable; being able to communicate complex, technical materials in concise and meaningful ways; participating in meetings; and providing training. RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manages all stages of the project cycle including design, data management, analysis, and delivery

• Maintains and reinforces client relationships through high-quality delivery

• Develop and deliver project plans, on time, on budget, and with a high level of customer satisfaction

• Develops contingency plans to mitigate risk and ensure project deliverables and deadlines are met.

• Establishes and maintains a consistent and effective communication mechanism to project teams and clients

• Participates in the development and implementation of innovative transportation analytics, including, market research surveys, models, and software engineering

• Actively engages in training and development of junior staff members.

• May be responsible for directly supervising staff

• Participates in industry events, e.g., presentations, publication

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• 5 years of experience and demonstrated skill in traveling forecasting, data science, or similar field using advanced analytic methods and tools

• Experience developing travel forecasts and building and validating travel demand models in one or more transportation modeling package (TransCAD, Cube, EMME, and/or VISUM)

• Solid understanding of and proficiency with Python, R or SQL

• Ability to manage multiple competing projects, priorities, and deadlines

• Ability to manage resources and timelines to bring projects in on-time and on-budget.

• Proficient in statistical analysis, data management, and presentation

• Ability to write clearly and succinctly in a variety of formats (e.g. email, technical documentation, instructions)

• Effective in a variety of communication settings: one-to-one and in groups; with peers, supervisors, staff and clients; in-person and long distance.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Solid understanding of and proficiency with GIS (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS, etc.)

• Facility with multiple statistical analysis/database software/packages (e.g., SciPy, scikit-learn, R, SAS)

• Demonstrated ability to manage projects successfully

• Demonstrated ability to develop business opportunities
