Primary Responsibilities of Railcar Mover/Forklift Operator:
- Safely Drive railcar mover to assist with the loading and unloading of incoming product.
- Conduct railcar and train movements; signal crew members for movement of the engine or train using lantern, hand, and/or flag signals or radio to indicate when to start, stop, back up, or set or release air brakes.
- Observe, interpret, and relay arm, lantern or radio signals and all other indications affecting movement of a train
- Operate track switches to change the direction of the cars within yard limits or on main railroad; apply or release hand brakes to switch or perform other duties
- Read and understand the book of rules, timetables, bulletins, train orders, safety instructions, and other written or printed material
- Prepare required daily reports and switch lists, either manually or with a computer; fill out forms, including train movement schedule orders.
- Inspect the condition of the train and equipment while stationary prior to operation.
- Ensure that equipment is performing at optimal levels and in accordance with all safety and quality assurance standards.
- Immediately notify management or correct any problems.
- Will maintain the integrity and follow procedures and processes put into place by ownership.
- Responsible for smooth shift transitions and full communication of moving cars to ensure proper and safe movement of cars.
- Maintain cleanliness of work areas.
Job Requirements of Railcar Mover/Forklift Operator:
- Two years of work experience in related field
- Railroad, Transportation or other relevant industry experience is a plus
- Ability to work in a 24/7 work environment and in outdoor working conditions.
- Prolonged periods of standing and traversing railroad cars and tracks.
- Must be able to visually inspect locomotive vehicles in all types of weather.
- Must be able to lift, push, pull, climb, sit, and stand.
- Must be able to identify and distinguish colors and hear warning signals.
- Must be able to walk up to a mile on rough terrain.
- Must be able to lift to 75 pounds at a time.
Qualifications of Railcar Mover/Forklift Operator:
- GED, high school diploma, or an equivalent combination of education and/or work experience
- Valid drivers license
