For more than 40 years, Resources for Community Development (RCD) has been a leading regional nonprofit developer and owner of affordable housing. RCD’s mission is to create and preserve affordable housing for people with the fewest options, to build community and enrich lives. RCD fosters strong, inclusive neighborhoods through strategies that address the health, economic development, education, and housing needs of residents across the community.


Since RCD was established in 1984, we have developed or preserved over 75 communities that provide affordable, high-quality, and service-enriched affordable rental housing to over 3,000 low-income households throughout the Bay Area. RCD is actively growing, with more than 1,000 new units of affordable housing in development or under construction. The Role

The Director of Business Operations (DBO) will function as a primary change agent at RCD, working both cross-departmentally and externally to further various company initiatives and objectives. Together with executive and senior leadership, the role will identify and implement measures that increase the efficiency and effectiveness of RCD’s internal operations and core business lines, while staying true to RCD’s core values and mission. To that end, the role and candidate will approach the work with a lens toward multiple bottom lines, including but not limited to real estate and social service delivery outcomes, and programmatic and company profitability. Success in the role will require a skillful balance between the bottom-line business objectives of the work and RCD’s people-first and mission-driven considerations.


The DBO will report to the Chief Financial Officer. The role will supervise and oversee the People Operations team, including People Operations Manager and Office Manager roles. The role will also work in close collaboration with teams and staff from Systems and Technology, Asset Management, Resident Services, and Real Estate Development. The DBO will have substantive strategic, decision making, and executional responsibilities in all areas identified below, which may change and be expanded upon from time to time.



Responsibilities


Business Continuity and Expansion

  • Planning, analysis and implementation support to ensure that RCD properties and tenants are best positioned to thrive
  • Ensure quality of service delivery, operational efficiencies, and business continuity in the face of changing external environments


Business Process Improvement

  • Work closely with Systems and Technology team and departmental leadership to identify and implement business process improvement solutions. Focus on operational efficiencies, end-user experience, and cost savings
  • Key support and leadership role in asset and property management initiatives toward improving property management outcomes


Organizational Planning and Development

  • Lead planning-related initiatives, including annual business planning, with a focus on creating strong connections between planning and performance across all departments and business lines
  • With RCD’s executive director, lead strategic planning efforts
  • With People Operations, foster care and tending of company culture and staff morale
  • Partner with People Operations, hiring and line managers to ensure that RCD recruits and retains top talent through quality design and delivery of HR and related programs


Requirements

Qualifications & Skill Set

  • 5 years of progressive leadership experience in organizational development, management consulting, and/or other organizational leadership role, with direct supervision experience
  • Experience in real estate development and/or asset and property management, with exposure to affordable housing a plus. Direct experience in affordable housing preferred but not required
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to juggle, prioritize and delegate in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities
  • Strong interpersonal and management skills and an ability to effectively supervise high capacity and highly qualified direct and indirect reports
  • Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Human Resource Information System (HRIS) or similar relational databases a plus
  • Experience with Business Analytics systems and applications, preferably with business analyst and/or administrative-type certifications. Direct experience with Salesforce and Microsoft Power BI and querying relational databases a plus
  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication
  • A ‘can-do’ attitude with an outlook that problems are to be solved
  • Passion to do social good and to ‘be part of the solution’
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field


Work Environment

RCD is currently practicing a hybrid work model. Depending on your distance from our main office in Berkeley, you will be expected to work up to two days in the office.


Travel Requirements

The responsibilities of this position will require occasional travel to off-site locations around the San Francisco Bay Area.


Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to sit, speak and hear. Requires frequent use of a keyboard, computer monitor and phone. Must be able to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing. Must be able to lift up to twenty (20) pounds occasionally. The salary range for this position is $134,500 to $148,600, based on factors including experience, qualifications, role specialization, and market conditions. Salary placement within this range considers current and past employees' salaries for similar roles, budgetary limits, and market demand.
