ResourceTek is seeking a skilled and experienced Electrical Designer / Drafter with expertise in AutoCAD Electrical to join our team for a 9 month contract in support of our client, a leading tier-one automotive supplier in Muscatine, IA. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Project Management & Collaboration
- Collaborate with engineers in the Global Engineering Services (GES) department to plan, organize, and execute multiple electrical design projects, ensuring alignment with engineering and manufacturing objectives.
- Manage and track multiple small-to-medium-sized projects, while adhering to timelines, quality standards, and budget constraints.
- Provide day-to-day technical support and assist GES engineers with design solutions to achieve project goals.
Electrical Design & Drafting
- Utilize AutoCAD Electrical and other design tools to create high-quality electrical drawings, schematics, and detailed layouts.
- Perform electrical design and detailing of machinery, systems, and control circuits, incorporating feedback from engineers to refine concepts and designs.
- Design control circuits for instrument components, logic controllers, relays, and power distribution systems.
- Create complete electrical design packages for new machinery, systems, and processes, ensuring compliance with both company and industry standards.
- Review and revise existing design documentation, drawings, and BOMs in response to engineering changes and updates.
Process Improvement & Technology Development
- Actively contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of the department’s design and drafting processes, leveraging industry best practices.
- Recommend innovative solutions for enhancing design efficiency and electrical system reliability based on your technical expertise and creativity.
Design Review & Documentation
- Ensure the accuracy and quality of all design deliverables, including preliminary, conceptual, and construction-ready drawings.
- Verify and validate designs to ensure they meet company and industry standards for safety, functionality, and manufacturability.
- Maintain comprehensive and organized design documentation and reference materials in accordance with company and industry standards.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with mechanical, process, and project engineers to make decisions regarding hardware, system integration, and process optimization.
- Ensure effective communication with global teams, including engineers, plant managers, and other stakeholders, across North America, Asia, South America, Australia, Africa, and Europe.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
- Prepare detailed electrical design packages and schematics for new equipment, machine systems, and processes.
- Develop and revise control circuits for systems including instrument components, PLCs, and relays.
- Create and verify electrical designs from engineering sketches, specifications, and supporting documents.
- Conduct design reviews to ensure designs meet required specifications, company standards, and regulatory compliance.
- Maintain accurate records of revisions, as-built drawings, and project documentation.
- Work collaboratively to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to specification.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate Degree in Drafting Design Technology or equivalent experience/degree preferred.
- 7 years of relevant drafting experience, with a strong background in electrical design and drafting.
- 5 years of hands-on experience with AutoCAD Electrical, including designing control systems, electrical layouts, and wiring diagrams.
- In-depth ability to read and interpret electrical blueprints and technical specifications.
- Proven ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams to achieve design objectives.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and precision in all design work.
- Excellent time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and take initiative on design improvements.
