Summary:
The Director of Bilingual/ESL Education provides leadership, vision, and oversight for the district's bilingual education and English as a Second Language (ESL) programs. This role ensures compliance with state and federal regulations, promotes research-based best practices, and advocates for equitable educational opportunities for Bilingual Emergent Learners (BEs). The Director will collaborate with campus administrators, teachers, support staff, students, and families to create a culturally responsive and supportive learning environment that fosters academic success and language proficiency for all BEs.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Program Development and Implementation:
- Develop, implement, and evaluate comprehensive bilingual and ESL programs aligned with state and federal guidelines (e.g., Texas Education Code, Chapter B, and Every Student Succeeds Act - ESSA).
- Oversee the selection and implementation of effective instructional materials, resources, and assessments for BEs.
- Stay abreast of current research and best practices in bilingual and ESL education and disseminate information to stakeholders.
- Compliance and Accountability:
- Ensure compliance with all state and federal mandates related to the identification, assessment, placement, and services for BEs.
- Monitor program effectiveness and student outcomes using data-driven decision-making.
- Prepare and submit required reports to the state and federal agencies.
- Professional Development and Support:
- Plan and provide high-quality professional development opportunities for teachers, administrators, and support staff on effective strategies for teaching BEs.
- Mentor and coach bilingual and ESL teachers to enhance their instructional practices and cultural responsiveness.
- Collaborate with campus administrators to ensure appropriate support and resources are available for BEs.
- Parent and Community Engagement:
- Establish and maintain strong partnerships with parents and community members to support the academic success of BEs.
- Provide opportunities for parents to participate in their children's education and decision-making processes.
- Communicate effectively with diverse audiences about the district's bilingual and ESL programs.
- Budget Management:
- Develop and manage the budget for bilingual and ESL programs.
- Oversee the allocation of resources and ensure cost-effectiveness.
Prerequisite Education and Experience:
- Master's degree in Bilingual Education, ESL, Educational Administration, or a related field.
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with Bilingual or ESL certification.
- Minimum of five years of successful experience as a bilingual or ESL teacher or administrator.
- Demonstrated knowledge of current research, best practices, and legal requirements in bilingual and ESL education.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience working with diverse student populations and families.
Salary : $80,000 - $100,000
