What are the responsibilities and job description for the Environmental Resource Field Worker position at Reston Association?
Purpose: Assistance with maintaining and monitoring the natural surface trails, natural areas, and community garden plots.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Remove trash from garden plots
- Mow garden plot aisles
- May assist with garden plot inspections
- Assists in habitat restoration, including removal of invasive plants and planting native species in natural areas
- Remove trash from natural surface trails
- Assist with pruning tree limbs from natural surface trails
- Assist with surveying and property post marking
- Maintain tools as assigned
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

Education & Experience: None required for this position. Some course work in the natural sciences or related field preferred.
Computer skills: None required for this position.
Other Skills and Abilities: Must be 18 years old or older. Valid driver's license and good driving record required. Must be comfortable working alone or as a team in the field. Must have ability to interact courteously with the public. Must have familiarity with or willing to learn to use tools and equipment that includes but is not limited to automatic transmission pick-up truck, heavy and light gas-powered yard tools, various hand tools. Must be comfortable working outdoors, hardworking, and enthusiastic.

Employee follows established procedures and guidelines at all times. Occasional weekend work may be required.
Tools Equipment and Machines used: Pick-up truck, heavy and light equipment, gas powered yard tools, various hand tools.
Contacts: Frequent contact with RA staff, members and the public.

Work is performed outdoors either alone or with one other person. Close cell phone or radio contact will be maintained with environmental worker, environmental resources specialist, and environmental resources supervisor. Employee will be required to work outdoors and participate in snow removal. Work may occur in inclement weather.
