Job Summary and Qualifications
The Nurse Manager serves as a role model, clinically and administratively, clinical consultant for Nursing and ancillary staff. The Nurse Manager is responsible for clinical and administrative decisions in the division in collaboration with or in the absence of the Director.
Nursing Process
Maintains current knowledge of nursing standards of care.
Develops educational material that meets the needs of Nursing staff regarding the Nursing Process and its application including when necessary, the assessment, planning, implementation, documentation and evaluation of care.
Resource Management
Assumes accountability for personal contribution to unit/department responsibilities and priorities.
Utilizes appropriate resources to complete assignment within allocated time period.
Demonstrates the appropriate use of hospital systems and processes when ordering supplies from Materials Management.
Organizes work processes to ensure best use of time and other resources.
Adapts to changes in volume and/or acuity demands to meet productivity targets.
Demonstrates efforts to eliminate waste.
Performance Improvement
Drives PI process in the division by: education of staff, development of staff participation opportunities, and introduction/communication of PI opportunities/projects in division.
Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading literature and attending appropriate inservices.
Shares knowledge of current trends and developments in the field and acts as a change agent when necessary.
Promotes, coordinates and effectively manages change efforts/processes.

Reviews, edits & approves staff Payroll.
Participates in annual Competency process as well as the Evaluation Process.
Participates in purposeful Employee and Patient Rounding.
Assumes shared responsibility for department audits and daily Plus Stats.
Ensure Staff are active participants in unit and hospital wide committees.
Monitors orientee performance and practice, along with preceptors, and initiates action to correct/develop orientees.
Provides staff with honest and constructive feedback regarding their performance and growth on an ongoing basis.
Provides mentoring, counseling and coaching for staff as needed.
Provides opportunities for staff to participate in departmental shared governance.
Assists staff in providing patient care and services as needed.
Other duties as assigned
Education & Experience:
Education: BSN required with grace period. Enrollment in BSN Program required within 6 months of hire into position; BSN achievement required within 28 months of hire into position. Master Degree in a related field or actively pursuing advanced degree preferred.
Licensure: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the commonwealth of Virginia
Certification: BLS, ACLS, PALS required. TNCC, CPI preferred. Certification is area of specialty or nursing leadership preferred
