Position: Quality Control Technician
Reports to: Quality Control Superintendent

Position Overview:
The Quality Control Technician is crucial in ensuring all products meet the company’s high-quality standards. This role requires hands-on inspections, testing, and monitoring of processes in various areas, including the sawmill, planer, engineered wood products (EWP), and kiln operations.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct daily checks on lumber dimensions (sizes), hot checks (moisture content), defect assessments, and overall product quality across sawmill, planer, EWP, and kiln operations.
- Perform in-depth weekly inspections, including scanner calibration, storyboard reviews, and ensure that production standards are maintained across all machinery and processes.
- Operate and monitor the L-Size program to ensure compliance with specified dimensions and tolerances.
- Work closely with maintenance and operations teams to address any issues with equipment or production lines, ensuring that machinery consistently meets quality standards.
- Maintain accurate records of quality control checks, inspection results, and product specifications. Report deviations or defects to the Quality Control Superintendent for corrective actions.
- Identify potential improvements in processes or equipment to enhance product quality, reduce defects, and streamline operations.
- Ensure all products and processes comply with company quality guidelines, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Lock out/Tag out (LOTO) certified, with a strong understanding of safety procedures.
- Experience in sawmill, lumber manufacturing, or a related forest products environment is preferred.
- Strong understanding of sawmill equipment, lumber grading rules, and forest product industry standards and regulations.
- Exceptional ability to identify defects, discrepancies, or quality issues in products and equipment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with team members and supervisors.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and take initiative in ensuring product quality.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot and identify causes of quality issues.
- Requires working in a dynamic sawmill and manufacturing environment that may include exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures.
