Position
Reporting to the Survivor Care Manager, Survivor Care Advocate will operate as an advocate for community based and residential survivors providing housing and case management support; providing services to victims of human trafficking in West Tennessee utilizing Restore Corps in-house services, contracts, community based service providers and other collaborations. A Survivor Care Advocate (SCA) candidate must possess strong organizational and group leadership abilities, have work experience in the areas of human services preferably in the areas of domestic violence and/or sexual assault services. The candidate must demonstrate stability in personal presentation and professional relationships. This position requires, at a minimum, a bachelor’s degree in Social Work or a related field, or a minimum of 3 years in social/human services, substance abuse, mental health, and/or a related field. This position will work in tandem with other staff on the Survivor Services Team of Restore Corps and Blossom House. The candidate will coordinate closely with the Survivor Care Manager and Survivor Care Coordinators to carry out the mission and develop an ever-improving system of care for the survivors we serve.
The work of aftercare is diverse and complex, including a broad range of activities and frequently changing conditions, situations and problems. The SCC must be able to analyze problems and make prudent decisions while interpreting a variety of factors, problems and alternative methods and procedures, and know when to bring in counsel from their supervisor. The Survivor Care Advocate must be willing and able to work in a trauma-informed, strengths-based culture and to make good contextualized decisions.
Empower Survivors - SCA Key Responsibilities
- Provide support to a diverse caseload of survivors to include minors and adults.
- Provide advocacy to survivors during recovery meetings, medical appointments, court hearings, law enforcement interviews, community agency appointments, and etc. as requested
- Provide relapse prevention support to survivors battling substance addictions
- Serve as a member of the survivor’s support team during care plan development and implementation
- Conduct comprehensive housing assessments, housing planning and client-driven housing searches based on the individual clients' needs.
- Responsible for duties related to the follow-up of clients that are seeking housing.
- Identify housing options for program participants
- Provide housing search assistance for eligible referred program participants.
- Work with partner agencies to support program participants in completing applications and applying for supportive documentation to accompany admissions applications (i.e. self-certifications, birth certificate, social security card, etc.).
- Assess life, educational, and employment skills and assist in the development of needed skills.
- Communicate with survivors, families and professionals to help identify appropriate levels of care and information pertaining to services
- Offer the delivery of services in a way which complies with the agency’s health and safety procedures & supports empowerment and respecting participant’s right to choose
- Comply with agency policy and procedures, maintaining all required documentation, including reporting for grants, in a professional and timely manner
- Communicate, confer with, and assist in the coordination of care for clients with other DST members
- Establish strong, appropriate and caring working relationships with survivors of human trafficking assigned to caseload
- Maintain up-to-date documentation on clients and services for grant reporting and research purposes
- Coordinate transportation for survivors of human trafficking in personal and/or agency vehicles in tandem with assigned SCC.
- Serve on the monthly On-Call rotation for the agency’s 24/7 hotline
Equip Communities - SCA Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with other organizations as needed, for care coordination and response
- Serve as the primary point of contact for landlords concerns and complaints, acting as a liaison to connect landlords, tenants and the housing case managers for those in the West TN housing programs
- Become active in the housing community to identify housing opportunities for households experiencing homelessness and those at-risk of becoming homeless with barriers.
- Identify and maintain an up to date list of resources throughout West TN
- Build rapport and trust with a diverse population including clients, staff members, volunteers and donors. Great people skills are vital for this role.
- Attend, as directed, community or related events to learn about other victim serving organizations, network for key relationships, and build awareness about Restore Corps’ services and mission
- Serve as a Restore Corps representative to share expertise at professional and community trainings and other events
- Maintain relationships and network with other community-based housing service providers.
- Attend community events with Executive Director
Change Systems - SCA Key Responsibilities
- Co-lead educational groups to high risk communities to identify victims of human trafficking and/or groups for engaged survivors being served by the DST
- Participate in Lives Worth Saving
- Identify service gaps during service provision, providing insight to Director of Survivor Services and Executive Director to inform potential legislation or systems change
Additional Responsibilities
- Perform other agency-related duties or special projects, as directed by supervisor or Executive Director. Duties may change according to organizational needs
- Ability and willingness to work irregular hours when organizational needs dictate. Rotating on-call hours on nights and weekends are part of this position
Working Conditions
Work is carried out in a combination of an office setting with intermittent sitting, standing, walking and some light physical activity, as well as transporting clients for appointments throughout the service region. Most work is performed while sitting and using the computer, phone and engaged in face-to-face conversation with staff and/or clients. Additionally, the SCA will be expected to respond to client needs throughout the 21 counties of West Tennessee. Car travel required (must operate both personal and staff vehicles).
Education, Experience and Skills:
- BSW or a related field
- Experience in case management or similar position with experience working with trauma, substance abuse, sexual exploitation, victim assistance, child protective services, youth in foster care or human trafficking populations.
- Demonstrated ability to understand and implement best practices around services for at-risk individuals and families.
- Proficient utilization of computer and related technology
- Spanish fluency is a strong plus.
- People-oriented with demonstrated ability to build rapport and gain trust with diverse populations
- Teachability is key: Learning from each other and our clients.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills, both written and oral, and prompt response to messages.
- Able to maintain confidentiality, as required by law and in the best interests of survivors, staff and the agency.
- Valid driver’s license, state-required driver’s insurance and access to reliable personal transportation; ability to travel throughout West Tennessee

This is a full-time, salaried position to include evening, weekend and holiday hours as needed for 24-hour, 365 day staff coverage for services to human trafficking survivors throughout West Tennessee.
Salary starts at $40K a year, commensurate with experience and education. Will include mileage reimbursement, paid time off, offer for health insurance coverage, & 401K match.
