Position Description: The College Navigator works closely with the Compass Program Team and directly reports to the Director of Workforce Development to plan, implement, and coordinate effective programs and activities promoting college opportunities for program participants, specifically, adults who have a High School Diploma or GED or returning to complete a High School Equivalency program and succeed in college preparation classes and support in the semester.

Responsibilities
Support multiple projects that will increase knowledge about college access and financial aid to help students transition from high school equivalency (HSE) to college.
Provide services to students in the following areas:
1. Postsecondary goal setting, exploration, and enrollment
- Help adult students explore majors and create a certificate or associate degree plan through Alamo colleges or a four-year university.
- Guide and advise adult students on the college application and admission processes.
- Guide adult students through the FAFSA/TASFA to ensure accurate completion, verification, and acceptance of award, and complete scholarship searches.
- Assist instruction department to ensure students are meeting hourly requirements for post-testing.
2. Postsecondary Success and Support activities:
- Create and conduct college and career success skills workshops and document participation and benchmark successes.
- Meet with continuing college students virtually or on their campus for one-on-one advising sessions to assess needs and goals.
- Meet with continuing college students for support sessions to assess needs and goals and ensure persistence & employment.
- Make and document appropriate student referrals to local workforce and social service agencies to ensure persistence.
- Coordinate logistics for first day of postsecondary programming which includes but not limited to dual enrollment, college prep, and college support.
3. Case management and Outreach:
- Manage a caseload of adult students and conduct regular check-ins via email, text, app, and record detailed data in case notes.
- Provide a safe and understanding environment for students.
- Assist Director of Workforce Development and Compass Program Team in communicating with partners and community college advisors.
- Support outreach and collaborative efforts that relate to college access and success.
Complete required amount of professional development hours each year.
Perform other duties, tasks, and special projects as assigned.
Education and Experience
Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in the Social Sciences, Education or a related field of study.
Two-four years' experience providing services related to workforce development, and/or case management experience.
Experience providing services to adult and / or non-traditional students, specifically at-risk populations.
Experience in multiple data collection and performance accountability.
Computer literate in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Equivalent combination of education and experience.
Bilingual in English and Spanish strongly preferred, not required.
Salesforce or other CRM experience preferred.
Knowledge and Skills
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Highly skilled in interpersonal relationships with students and adults in leadership, management, teaching, counseling and/or other professional positions.
Knowledge and experience working with underrepresented students such as low-SES, racial/ethnic minority, LGBT , parents, immigrants, and veterans.
Ability to present an image of confidence and professionalism in appearance and attitude.
Ability to engage students to recognize their talents and create or awaken a desire to achieve.
Knowledge of workforce preparation and job readiness to include goal setting, career exploration, essential / soft skills, job search, interviewing and resume.
Knowledge of advising/counseling techniques and procedures.
Ability to organize work, set priorities, coordinate workload, handle multiple responsibilities, and meet deadlines.
Ability to deal with diverse situations and people and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff and those contacted in the course of work.
Willingness to learn new things and eagerness to acquire new skills.
Schedule: Monday-Thursday 9am-6pm and Friday 9am-2pm (some Evenings and Saturdays required)
Estimated Hourly Rate: $20.00 - $23.00 per hour

- This position is grant funded. Although the grant is expected to end, additional funding might be obtained to extend the grant beyond the end date. If that would occur, your employment under the grant might also be extended. Must possess a valid Class C Texas Drivers License or obtain a valid Class C Texas Drivers License within thirty (30) days after becoming a resident of the State of Texas.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical requirements include visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer keyboard and basic office equipment. Subject to sitting,
standing, bending, twisting, and walking to perform the essential functions.
