Title: Medical Records Specialist
JOB SUMMARY:
We are looking for either a full-time or part-time Medical Records Specialist who can work 25-40 hours per week Monday to Friday. We are willing to be flexible on the hours and days.
Medical records specialists organize and maintain health information both in paper files and in electronic systems. They check data for accuracy, assign codes for insurance reimbursement, record information and keep file folders and electronic databases up-to-date. Some of the data they manage includes patient information, medical histories, physician exams, test results, treatments and services provided. In addition to their clerical duties, records specialists often consult with health care professionals to make sure information is accurate. They must also follow best practices for security and patient confidentiality.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Break down charts upon discharge of patients and file paperwork under appropriate tabs
- Printing and scanning medical records
- Report data to other agencies
- Pulling charts, archiving and storage of medical records
- Answer medical records telephone and respond accordingly
- Clerical processing, filing and purging medical record
- Assisting facility personnel with medical record completion
- Abstracting, analyzing, and auditing of all medical records in a timely manner.
- Collects and analyzes data for quality improvement
- Ensuring medical records privacy and confidentiality, discerning legal/ appropriate/confidential release of medical records to outside agencies and legal authorities, and files all paperwork
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of electronic health records software
- Attention to detail
- Strong organizational and prioritizing skills
- Excellent written, verbal and comprehension skills
- Basic computer programs
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Ability to be highly efficient, organized and accurate in work
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum of one-year experience in a medical facility
- Experience in a Medical Records Department or health related office setting is preferred
- Familiarity with medical and mental health terminology is preferred

Pay: $21.00 per hour
