Job Summary
The Early Learning Program Assistant Director is responsible for supporting and implementing the vision and mission of the Early Learning Program ministry which includes the weekday preschool and children’s day out programs.

Position-Specific
- Assists with the administration of the day-to-day operation of the program in keeping with its philosophy, policies and procedures.
- Available to remain on the premises and visible during all times the program is in session.
- Assists Director and Teachers in planning a balanced program that provides developmentally appropriate care and education for young children in the following areas: spiritual; cognitive; small and large motor; health, safety and nutrition; and social-emotional.
- Is knowledgeable of High Scope curriculum/Developmentally Appropriate Practice and collaborates with Teachers to ensure classroom implementation.
- Is knowledgeable of and helps maintain all National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) requirements and program/classroom portfolios.
- Assists Director with staff professional development planning and training: researching other ways for staff to receive service hours.
- Assists Director in maintaining required records for all staff.
- Assists Director in planning classroom, extra programming and outdoor time schedules and/or other shared space.
- Plan and implement extra program activities: In house field trips, book fair, Pizza party, Muffins with Mom, etc.
- Available to assist teachers, as needed, in classroom management, curriculum implementation, parent involvement and areas of concern.
- Enrolls children in compliance with policies—provides verbal and written information about the program, answers questions and conducts family tours of the classroom and facility.
- Helps with planning and administration of programs for parent education and participation.
- Is available to talk with parents on an as needed basis: before and after school, and/or by appointment.
- Familiar with community resources for children and families that will enrich the curriculum and provide experiences among children and the community.
- Familiar with advocacy issues that affect young children, their families, and professionals in early education, and participates in events that promote advocacy on their behalf. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education or a related academic discipline and minimum 1 year experience as a program director.
- Ability to create a positive team atmosphere.
- Knowledge of children’s physical, social-emotional, and cognitive developmental norms.
- Ability to create a positive approach when working with young children.
- Ability to implement positive discipline for children.
- Ability to promote spiritual development for staff and children.
