What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ophthalmic Assistant Lead position at RETINA CONSULTANTS?
SUMMARY: The Lead Ophthalmic Assistant is responsible for training, overseeing, and assigning daily responsibilities to the ophthalmic assistants in order to facilitate patient flow. This is a full-time, Monday-Friday position.
DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
· Responsible for screening and testing of patients (2-3 days out of the week).
· Maintains clinical operations in all three locations
· Maintains adequate medical/ophthalmic supplies and medications in exam and testing rooms.
· Works with Practice Manager to ensure HIPPA and OSHA compliance with office policies and all patients seen in the clinic
· Assists in training of new ophthalmic assistants and orienting assistants to office policies
· Provides work direction and guidance to staff; observe, review, and provide feedback on staff performance
· Auditing charts to ensure all documentation and necessary testing is complete
· Ensures that all medical equipment is working properly in all three locations
· Notifies the appropriate personnel if a problem is identified.
· Works with the Practice Manager, Front Office, and Billing Leads to maintain open lines of communication with all staff
· Other duties as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
· Proficiency and ability to work independently in all areas of an ophthalmology practice, preferable Retina, to provide smooth patient flow
· Strong computer skills and EMR knowledge
· Knowledge of eye terminology, pathology, anatomy, and physiology of the eye
· Knowledge of laser safety
· High attention to detail
· COA or COT preferred
Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience as a practicing ophthalmic assistant/scribe, preferable in a Retina practice
