Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized AR Specialist to join our healthcare team. The specialist will be responsible for resolution of outstanding A/R including correcting billing errors, refiling claims and appealing denials. The AR Specialist role requires strong expertise in insurance procedure for referrals, authorizations, copays, and deductibles. A successful AR Specialist should be detail-oriented, accurate, accountable, balanced, with sound business judgment, and aligned with company objectives. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of medical terminology, coding systems, and billing processes. This role is essential for ensuring accurate billing and collections for medical services rendered, while maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations.
Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain accounts receviable, follow up on unpaid claims, resolve discrepancies with insurance companies, and ensure timely reimbursement.
- Identify and resolve any claim denials by collaborating with insurance companies and resubmitting claims as necessary.
- Review patient records for accuracy and completeness before billing.
- Utilize coding systems such as ICD-9 to ensure proper classification of diagnoses and procedures.
- Maintain detailed records of all billing transactions and communications with insurance providers.
- Collaborate with Insurance Department of Coding Team to clarify any discrepancies in patient records or billing information.
- Stay updated on changes in medical billing regulations and coding practices to ensure compliance.
- Any other project as determined by the Revenue Cycle Manager.
Requirements
- Strong physician billing experience (ophthalmology/retina, a plus)
- Strong understanding of commercial health insurance, and federal and state coverage.
- Experience with Claims Disputes/Resolutions on payer portals.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, insurance companies, and healthcare staff.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Proficient in Microsoft Outlook
- Experience and ability to navigate practice EHR PM systems and RCM/data reporting tools (NextGen, Nextech, MCDI/ICP , experience, a plus)
