Resident On Call Assistant

Retirement Housing Foundation
Estacada, OR Part Time
POSTED ON 1/8/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 3/7/2025

Job Overview:

The Resident On-Call Assistant plays a vital role in providing assistance to residents during after-hours and emergency situations. Living on-site, the Resident On-Call Assistant is responsible for responding to emergencies, assisting with resident needs, and ensuring building safety and security when the Manager is unavailable. This role demands strong communication skills, a professional demeanor, and the ability to follow established emergency protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

Emergency Response:

  • After-Hours Support: Handle emergencies and courtesy assistance during evenings, weekends, holidays, and any other time the Manager is unavailable.
  • Medical Emergencies: Immediately contact 911 in the event of a medical emergency and notify the Manager as soon as possible.
  • Emergency Maintenance Contact: Attempt to reach the Manager first for all maintenance emergencies. If unable to reach, contact the Maintenance Technician. Only call an external vendor in cases of absolute emergency and only if both the Manager and Maintenance Technician are unreachable.

Routine Building Security and Safety Checks:

  • Evening Building Rounds: Conduct evening rounds to check all interior lighting. Report any malfunctioning lights by submitting a maintenance request to the office slot box or under the office door.
  • Locking and Securing Areas: Ensure all common area windows, doors, the Manager’s Office, and Community Room are locked and secure each evening.
  • Distress Monitoring: Listen for any sounds or calls indicating resident distress and respond promptly.

Resident Assistance:

  • Courtesy Support: Assist residents with lockouts, contact emergency responders as needed, and aid family members unable to reach their loved ones. Provide vendor entry to the building when required during Manager’s off-hours.
  • Resident Privacy and Confidentiality: Maintain strict confidentiality regarding resident information. Discuss only pertinent details with emergency personnel and RHF staff.

Incident and Task Documentation:

  • On-Call Log Maintenance: Record all activities and apartment entries in the On-Call Log. Submit the log to the Manager every payroll approval day.
  • Emergency Contact Information: Familiarize yourself with the vendor emergency contact sheet, but refrain from contacting external maintenance vendors unless an emergency requires it and RHF staff cannot be reached.

General Observations:

  • Reporting Non-Emergency Issues: For issues such as a messy trash area or graffiti, leave a note for the Manager.
  • Immediate Reporting of Critical Issues: For emergencies like leaks, smoke, or fire, promptly contact the Manager. If the Manager is unreachable, escalate to the Maintenance Technician or Regional Manager until contact is made.

Special Situations:

  • Resident Deaths: In the unfortunate event of a resident’s passing, inform the Manager, who will notify the appropriate authorities. Avoid sharing information with other residents until the Manager has contacted the police and family.

Qualifications:

  • Residency Requirement: Must be a resident of Centennial Manor with the flexibility to be on-call during assigned shifts.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively, maintain professionalism, and show empathy in challenging situations.
  • Confidentiality and Discretion: Commitment to handling all resident information and situations confidentially.
  • Reliable and Responsible: Able to consistently meet on-call requirements and maintain communication with the Manager for shift coverage as needed.

Note: The Resident On-Call Assistant must coordinate with the Manager to arrange coverage if planning to be unavailable. This individual must handle themselves professionally, displaying kindness and courtesy to residents, guests, and vendors at all times. Contact the Manager with any questions about job responsibilities.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk throughout the building and respond to various areas as needed.
  • Ability to remain on-site or reachable by phone during on-call hours, and to respond quickly to resident needs.

Compensation:

Actual base salary considers several factors including but not limited to geography, job-related knowledge, experience, and budget. The start of the salary range is typically associated with the minimum experience required.

The role is considered (Part-Time / On Call 6 hours) non-exempt so will be eligible for overtime pay in accordance with federal and state law. The anticipated base pay range for the position is $15.95 per hour.
