Description
RETTEW is seeking a dynamic and client-focused Civil Engineer to join our Municipal Team as a Project Manager. This role offers the opportunity to work on diverse and impactful municipal projects in south-central Pennsylvania.
As a Project Manager, you will:
- Collaborate with Township and Borough clients to address planning and infrastructure needs, including streets, traffic, bridges, storm sewers, stormwater management, parks and recreation, funding/grants, zoning, and GIS/mapping.
- Oversee the review of subdivision and land development plans.
- Lead a team of professionals to deliver high-quality municipal engineering services.
- Attend client meetings and provide expert advice and solutions.
Applicants for this role are required to possess a background in civil engineering consulting, along with experience and knowledge of Pennsylvania's regulatory environment.
Responsibilities
Program, Project, and Task Management (Engineering consulting with municipal engineering focus)
- Assist in planning and defining the project’s objectives and scope.
- Assist in developing project’s budget and schedule. Manage and adhere to the established budget and schedule.
- Monitor project progress and status and repot any issues to manager and/or Team Lead.
- Maintain project documentation and track project metrics.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships.
- Participate in selecting the project team. Coordinate with team members to ensure tasks are completed on time.
- Manage and coordinate the project team’s workflow and resources.
- Participate in internal scheduling meetings with other PMs, Practices, and Teams to coordinate available resources to maximize efficiency, client service, and ensure quality work is completed and project deadlines are met.
- Resolve issues that arise during the project to keep it on track.
- Prepare and present project reports and proposals to clients and stakeholders.
- Handle meetings, work sessions, and public hearings.
- Assist clients in selecting contractors; coordinate their activities, as needed.
- Prepare and submit change orders and addenda to contracts for out-of-scope work. Seek assistance from senior and/or legal staff, as needed.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement strategies to mitigate potential issues.
- Complete the project billing process on time and accurately.
- Assume responsibility for the collection of amounts due
- Serve in a marketing role for the company with an emphasis on business development.
Technical Responsibilities
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of several functional areas plus specialization in one area.
- Serve as a technical advisor and knowledge resource by training and assisting other team members.
- Develop team subject matter experts.
Management, Supervisor, and Guidance
- Manage, develop, coach, and mentor assigned direct reports.
- Assist in evaluating and anticipating the knowledge and skills needed to ensure there’s an appropriate level of project staffing.
- Coordinate internal work activities internally to provide seamless client service
- Set project team’s performance standards to meet project, Team, Practice, and company goals.
- Mentor and coach team members to achieve high performance.
- Hold direct reports accountable for meeting Employee Success Plans, Team, and Practice goals.
Communication, Teamwork, and Leadership
- Possess effective oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrate assertiveness and cooperation when managing conflicts.
- Maintain clear communication with clients, team members, contractors, and other stakeholders.
- Interact with internal and external project team members.
- Demonstrate empathy and critical listening skills.
- Engage in some project stakeholder interactions and meetings.
- Assist with official communication about specific assignments/meetings.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Pennsylvania or the ability to obtain licensure within one year.
- Minimum of five years of experience in Municipal Engineering or project management.
- Experience with Pennsylvania municipal planning, codes, and regulations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and project management software.
