Laboratory Supervisor

Job descriptionMon to Fri alternating week and holidayThe Supervisor is responsible for coordinating and directing all activities of the Chemistry and Immunology laboratories to achieve maximum quality of testing and compliance with all requirement by regulatory agencies. Perform other duties as assigned Must Have:

• BS Degree in Clinical Technology or related science with six year of relevant hospital experience.
• MS Degree in Clinical Chemistry
• Preferred with ASCP or NCA Certification
• Current NYS License or Licensure eligible required

Essential Function and Responsibilities

• Understand and adhere to the client Performance Standard Policies and Behavior
• Assure the delivery of quality department clinical service in accordance with established hospital and regulatory accreditation agency standard
• Assure employee compliance with hospital and Human Resources policies and procedure
• Assure that employee competency and education requirement are satisfied as per hospital policy
• As required participate in the Performance Improvement Program as defined by the organization
• Attend Management Leadership meeting as scheduled required and communicate hospital policies, performance improvement initiatives and all other required information to their staff.
• Is responsible for participation in committee, task force and project as appropriate.
• Assure the provision of a safe employee patient environment.
• Maintain knowledge related to the operation of their department.
• Work collaboratively with all levels of the hospital interdisciplinary team and promotes the team concept within their department and hospital wide.
• Demonstrate positive customer service, fosters positive employee relations and assure that staff adhere to the Customer Service Behavioral Standard
• Is supportive of hospital initiative and project and function as a positive change agent.
• Promote a positive and professional image and is a role model, coach, mentor and resource for staff and peer
• Direct and supervise test performed by Chemistry Scientist.
• Train and assist Scientist with specialized test interpret result for physician and advise on follow up test, as needed
• Oversee Quality Control Program and prepare monthly Quality Control reports for section meeting
• Prepare section payroll and time sheet.
• Document test implementation and training for staff.
• Oversee and reviews Point of Care Glucose testing for the Department of Laboratories
• Establish Quality Assurance Program for Chemistry Section to include active review of technologist performance and compliance, Quality Control and test result.
• Is actively involved in assisting with the development of effective utilization of laboratory computer software to include instrument interfacing test, worksheet and report formatting
• Troubleshoot instrument malfunction when need
• Perform the duties of Sectional Scientist and Assistant Supervisor as need
• Develop and submits departmental goal and objective as required by the Division Administrator
• Perform all other related duties as assigned
