We are seeking a Lead eCommerce Developer to take charge of our Shopify Hydrogen development, delivering dynamic, user-centric experiences across our e-commerce platform. In this role, you will architect, build, and optimize our Shopify Hydrogen storefront, working closely with design, product, and marketing teams to ensure both a high-performing and content-empowered user experience. You'll balance technical performance with flexibility, empowering marketing teams to own content within a headless environment.
This position reports to the Head of Digital Studio and is based in San Diego, CA.
As the Lead eCommerce Developer, you will have an opportunity to:
- Lead Headless Development: Develop, maintain, and optimize Shopify stores with a headless architecture using Shopify Hydrogen and Storefront API across the Foresight & Bushnell Golf brands.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with design, product, and marketing teams to bring engaging, responsive e-commerce experiences to life. Ensure seamless integration with CMS tools to empower marketing teams to control content autonomously within the headless setup.
- Performance Optimization: Implement best practices for speed and performance optimization in a headless environment, ensuring a balance between robust functionality and an optimized, responsive user experience.
- SEO and Accessibility: Ensure the storefront adheres to SEO best practices and meets accessibility standards to provide an inclusive shopping experience.
- Code Quality: Enforce high coding standards, conduct code reviews, and promote clean, modular, and reusable code.
- Technical Leadership: Mentor junior developers, provide guidance on Shopify Hydrogen, and lead in establishing front-end development processes.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with the latest in Shopify Hydrogen, React, and front-end development practices, ensuring our platform remains cutting-edge.
You have:
- Experience: 5 years of front-end development experience, with a strong portfolio showcasing e-commerce projects.
- Shopify & Hydrogen Expertise: Extensive experience with Shopify, especially using the Hydrogen framework to build headless storefronts.
- React and JavaScript Proficiency: Strong experience in React and JavaScript/TypeScript, with a solid understanding of component-based architecture.
- GraphQL: Experience with GraphQL to manage data queries and interactions with Shopify and third-party APIs.
- Headless Architecture: Knowledge of headless CMS platforms, API integrations, and working with composable commerce stacks.
- Performance Optimization: Proven experience in optimizing e-commerce sites for performance, including Core Web Vitals, and responsive design principles.
- Marketing Collaboration: Proven ability to work with marketing teams to ensure content management autonomy, balancing technical constraints with the flexibility required for marketing campaigns.
- Agile Development: Experience in Agile development methodologies and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- SEO & Accessibility: Familiarity with SEO best practices and accessibility standards (WCAG) for e-commerce.
- UX/UI Design Awareness: Understanding of UX/UI principles, working closely with designers to implement pixel-perfect layouts.
- Mentorship: Previous experience mentoring junior developers and driving code quality and best practices.
- Testing and QA: Familiarity with automated testing tools and practices (e.g., Jest, Cypress) to maintain code integrity.
