What are the responsibilities and job description for the Family Resource Specialist/Translator - Spanish Concentration position at Revere Public School District?
The Family Resource Specialist/Translator plays an essential role in providing a welcoming experience for new students and their families and caregivers. This position provides enrollment services for new students and their families or caregivers and is responsible for facilitating respectful communication in a diverse multi-cultural, multi-ethnic and multi-lingual environment.
Duties include but are not limited to the following. Additions and modifications to the representative duties and responsibilities are under the purview of the Superintendent of Schools and the Parent Information Center Coordinator.
SCHEDULE & COLLECTIVE BARGAINING UNIT
This is an employment-at-will position, not subject to collective bargaining. Current schedule is 40 hours per week for 52 weeks per year, generally 7:30 – 4:00 p.m. daily, including ½ hour unpaid lunch. Schedules may vary from time to time to accommodate parent and PIC needs.

- Support parents and caregivers during the new student registration process.
- Complete timely onboarding for all new students including application support including Free & Reduced Lunch Forms, etc. and providing information about schools within the District to families and caregivers.
- Collect and verify required registration documentation from families/caregivers and student’s prior schools.
- Enter new student data into District student information systems in a timely manner.
- Provide interpreting and translation services for Central Office and PIC Director, at meetings and in conferences, including communications among school staff, caregivers and others.
- Translate written correspondence for families whose primary language is not English.
- Triage incoming communications (phone, email, and visitors) to insure a timely response.
- Provide general clerical support, as needed: reporting, copying, scanning, mailing, etc.
- Maintain files, ensuring they are up to date at all times and reviewing for accuracy and completeness.
- Assure the protection of confidentiality of personally identifiable information maintained by Revere Public Schools, DESE, Court Systems, and other agencies.
- Refer families as appropriate to the Social Services Outreach Liaison or Homeless/Education Liaison.
- Assist with compliance and communications with homeless families, particularly upon registration regarding the McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Act.
- Understand and apply Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) with fidelity.
- Support the Coordinator in fulfilling any and all other departmental responsibilities as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
- Fluency in English and Spanish with the ability to interpret the spoken and translate the written languages.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Superior Customer Service instincts, in working with families/caregivers as well as among colleagues and the public, fielding phone, email and in person inquiries.
- Demonstrated discretion and confidentiality.
- Strong work ethic and reliable attendance.
- Proficiency in Google Suites, MS Word and Excel with general email and database experience.
- Have a willingness to learn new and different administrative tasks, software and approaches to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
- Familiarity with the McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Act and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
- Knowledge of school, district, and state student privacy policies and laws.
Preferred candidates will
- Hold Certification in Interpreting and/or Translation
- Hold an Associate’s Degree or higher.
- Be Proficient in Powerschool.
- Enjoy working with students, families/caregivers and colleagues.
Salary : $40,000 - $45,000
