We are seeking a Biochemist with expertise in water quality analysis, microbial cultures, and wastewater treatment chemistry. This role is ideal for a recent graduate or early-career professional with a background in biochemistry, microbiology, or environmental science.
Role Overview:
The Biochemist will assist in monitoring, testing, and maintaining microbial activity in synthetic wastewater systems that mimic industrial conditions. You will play a key role in ensuring biological treatment processes are optimized for maximum efficiency and sustainability.
Key Responsibilities:
Water Chemistry & Microbial Analysis
✔️ Conduct pH, BOD, COD, DO, and other water quality tests to monitor system health
✔️ Use spectrophotometers, chemical test kits, and microbiological methods for sample analysis
✔️ Maintain detailed logs of water quality trends and microbial activity
Bacterial Culture Management & Optimization
✔️ Introduce, monitor, and maintain bacterial cultures for biological wastewater treatment
✔️ Track bacterial metabolism and response to different wastewater compositions
✔️ Troubleshoot microbial imbalances (e.g., pH shifts, oxygen depletion, nutrient deficiencies)
Process & System Optimization
✔️ Assist in chemical dosing adjustments based on lab results
✔️ Conduct sampling and experimental analysis to improve biological treatment performance
✔️ Collaborate with engineers and scientists on R&D projects to enhance treatment efficiency
Qualifications & Skills:
✅ Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, Microbiology, Environmental Science, or a related field (recent graduates encouraged to apply)
✅ Experience with water quality testing, microbial cultures, or wastewater treatment is a plus
✅ Proficiency in lab equipment operation (pH meters, spectrophotometers, incubators, etc.)
✅ Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret biochemical and microbiological data
✅ Ability to work independently, follow SOPs, and document findings accurately
✅ Familiarity with microbial metabolism, fermentation, and bioengineering principles is a plus
Work Schedule & Location:
On-site in Stockton, CA | ⏰ Part-time (15-25 hours per week, with potential for full-time based on performance)
