Job Summary:
The Woodshop Production Assistant is responsible for cutting, preparing, finishing, assembling, and organizing all parts required for custom bunk bed installations. This role includes measuring and cutting materials to precise specifications, smoothing rough surfaces and edges, applying primer and paint, test fitting components for accuracy, and properly labeling and packaging parts for shipping or transport. Additionally, the assistant is responsible for receiving and organizing shipments, maintaining shop cleanliness, tracking inventory, and eliminating waste by organizing raw and scrap materials.
Role Responsibilities:
- Receive weekly lumber shipments, Monday or Wednesday, from the semi truck and move materials into the shop to inspect for quality and notify manager about any damaged materials.
- Organize raw materials and reusable scrap wood to maintain efficiency and reduce waste. Move all other smaller pieces that cannot be reused to the open bed trailer and/or dumpster.
- Measure and cut lumber and sheet materials to exact specifications using saws and woodworking tools.
- Sand, smooth, and prep raw wood surfaces for finishing.
- Apply primer and paint to all components, ensuring smooth and even coverage.
- Test fit and pre-assemble parts to confirm accuracy and functionality before shipping or delivery.
- Stack, label, and organize finished components efficiently for installation teams or shipping.
- Wrap and package completed parts securely for transportation.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace, ensuring all tools and equipment are properly maintained.
- Empty trash, blow out and sweep the workspace.
- Remove smaller scrap wood regularly and haul scrap wood and waste materials to the landfill as needed.
- Track all materials inventory and catalog materials to prevent double ordering and inefficiencies.
- Follow all safety protocols and wear appropriate PPE.
Requirements:
- Experience with woodworking tools, including track saws, table saws, sanders, and drills.
- Ability to measure accurately and cut materials efficiently.
- Attention to detail and quality in finishing work (painting, priming, sanding).
- Ability to test fit and pre-assemble components accurately.
- Ability to lift and maneuver heavy materials, including lumber shipments.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently.
- Ability to transport and dispose of scrap wood and shop waste at a landfill.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
