POSITION TITLE: Accountant – Early Learning Centers
DEPARTMENT: Finance Department
REPORTS TO: Finance Director
STATUS: Nonexempt Regular Full- Time (40 hours/week)
SUMMARY
The Accountant for Early Learning Centers will manage the financial aspects of our Early Learning Center operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with regulations, and efficient management of resources. The ideal candidate will have a background in accounting, with experience in the childcare or nonprofit sector, and a passion for contributing to the success of educational and childcare services.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Management:
- Prepare and maintain financial records, including accounts receivable and reconciliations.
- Prepare monthly financial reports.
- Manage the budget process, including forecasting and reporting on variances.
Billing and Payments:
- Ensure timely and accurate billing of parents and funders for childcare services.
- Track payments, including government subsidies, and grants.
Compliance and Reporting:
- Ensure compliance with city, state and federal regulations, including audits.
- Prepare and submit reports to management, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies as required.
- Maintain accurate financial records for auditing purposes.
Cost Control and Financial Planning:
- Review and monitor operational costs to ensure financial sustainability.
- Advise management on cost-saving opportunities and financial strategies.
- Assist with the implementation of childcare billing system and other technological tools to promote efficiency.
Grant and Funding Management:
- Assist in the preparation and management of grant applications and funding requests.
- Monitor and report on the usage of grants, ensuring they are spent in accordance with the guidelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Proven experience (3 years) in accounting, preferably in a childcare, education, or nonprofit environment.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and budgeting.
- Familiarity with financial software (MIP, QuickBooks, or similar).
- Solid understanding of tax laws and regulations applicable to the childcare industry.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work with a variety of stakeholders.
- Analytical mindset and strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive financial data with discretion and confidentiality.
- Strong multitasking skills and ability to manage deadlines.
- Collaborative and team-oriented attitude with the ability to work independently.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a nonprofit or government-funded environment.
- Knowledge of childcare-specific funding, such as subsidies, grants, or vouchers.
- Experience with payroll software (e.g., ADP).
