Job Overview
The Software Engineer designs and develops back-end systems for client-facing web applications to deliver seamless, modern digital experiences. This role exists to support Rewards Network’s management portal and dining platform by building scalable, secure features that enhance services for millions of users and thousands of restaurant partners.
We are hiring experienced Software Engineers and Senior Software Engineers who are passionate about technology and innovation. This is a hybrid position that requires in office presence two days a week in Chicago.
What you’ll bring to the table: (Responsibilities)
- Develop back-end features for web applications using modern programming languages and frameworks.
- Design RESTful microservices to support scalable and maintainable system architectures.
- Integrate relational databases into applications to manage and retrieve data efficiently.
- Implement event streaming systems to enable real-time data processing and updates.
- Collaborate with team members to align development efforts with project goals and timelines.
- Create robust code with comprehensive testing to ensure system reliability and performance.
- Enhance security measures within back-end systems to protect sensitive data and operations.
- Maintain software solutions through the full development lifecycle, from design to deployment.
- Improve development processes by contributing to team and stakeholder-driven optimizations.
- Research industry trends to incorporate advanced practices into system development.
Do you have the right mix of ingredients: (Responsibilities)
- 3-5 years of experience in back-end software development.
- Preferred; Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or completion of a coding bootcamp.
- Proficiency in Scala, other JVM or functional languages for back-end development.
- Skill in designing and implementing RESTful microservice architectures.
- Experience with relational databases and data management techniques.
- Competence in leveraging event streaming technologies like Kafka.
- Ability to write clean, testable code following functional programming principles.
- Familiarity with web security practices and their application in development.
- Skill in collaborating across technical and non-technical teams effectively.
- Experience managing systems through the entire software development lifecycle.
- Knowledge of continuous integration and delivery practices.
- Understanding of Lightbend and Typelevel ecosystems or similar frameworks (preferred).

- This is a full-time, exempt position and the base compensation for this opening in Chicago is expected to be $120,000-$160,000 annualized, depending on level, candidate experience, skills, and other factors; this position will be eligible for an annual bonus program with a target of 10% base annualized salary, for a total compensation of $132,000-$176,000.
