Position Summary
The position of Elementary Health / Safety Assistant is done for the purpose / s of providing, under general supervision, a variety of health related services to elementary school students including dispensing medications, providing delegated health care tasks for students with chronic health problems, providing authorized first aid to students and providing for the safety and welfare of students during non classroom activities.
Essential Job Functions :
Provides health related services as directed :
- Dispenses medications.
- Provides authorized first aid to students
- Provides delegated health care tasks for students with chronic health problems
- Consults with higher level staff as needed when situations arise outside normal scope of responsibility
Assures health related services are provided according to instructions, district guidelines, and applicable laws
Composes reports and documents for administrators and other school staff regarding student health and safety issues
Provides for the safety and welfare of students during non-classroom activities.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications :
Essential Physical Requirements :
Moderate to high degree of physical stamina with frequent lifting of up to 10 lbs. and the need to lift up to 50 lbs. as needed in the physical assistance of students with special needs. Ability to move freely to various locations inside and outside the school. Frequent standing, walking, sitting, and bending. Exposure to the noise and activity of a school setting. Exposure to outdoor weather conditions. May involve exposure to communicable diseases, abusive student contacts and other adverse conditions.
Education Required
High school diploma or equivalent education or job experience.
Licenses Certification, Bonding and / or Testing Required
Schedule : (6 hours per day on the 24-25 Calendar), Monday through Friday during school year.
