Job Title: Custodian – Day Lead (Elementary, Middle, High School)

Job Summary: The job of Custodian – Day Lead (Elem/MS/HS) is done for the purpose/s of maintaining an attractive, sanitary and safe facility; providing adequate arrangements for meetings, classroom activities and events; and minimizing property damage, loss and liability exposure, ensuring that assignments are completed in a safe, proper and timely manner and directing assigned custodians as necessary.
Essential Job Functions - may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Arranges furnishings and equipment for the purpose of providing adequate preparations for meetings, classroom activities and events.
- Cleans school facilities (i.e. classrooms, offices, multipurpose rooms, bio-hazards, grounds, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe and attractive environment.
- Delivers variety of items (e.g. supplies, mail, packages, furniture, ) for the purpose
- distributing the materials to the appropriate
- Communicates necessary information to students, other site personnel, operations and supervisor for the purpose of providing information regarding activities, scheduling, energy conservation, safety and/or proper maintenance of facilities.
- Secures facilities and grounds for the purpose of minimizing property damage, loss and liability and ensuring safety at work site.
- Directs and trains personnel as assigned for the purpose of maximizing the efficiency of the workforce and meeting shift requirements.
- Procures and safely stores equipment, supplies and materials for the purpose of maintaining availability of required items and completing jobs efficiently.
- Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
- Maintains and repairs equipment (i.e. furniture, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, general mechanical areas, ) for the purpose of ensuring that items are available and in safe working condition.
- Supports school district policies and regulations in initiating, outlining and supervising building maintenance and improvement projects for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe and attractive environment.
- Keeps the buildings and grounds in optimum operating condition and appearance through cleaning, repair and maintenance for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe and attractive
- Inspects the buildings on a daily basis at the beginning of the shift for a suitable learning environment, paying particular attention to the work performed by the night custodian, for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe and attractive environment.
- Cleans, maintains and operates major equipment in the building (i.e. the boiler).
- Is responsible for the general safety and fire safety conditions and procedures of the building,
including playground equipment safety checks for the purpose of maintaining a safe environment.
- Is responsible for the general security of the building, which may involve occasional off-duty hours as a result of vandalism or natural causes, for the purpose of maintaining a safe and attractive environment.
- Maintains records (such as locker combinations, fire extinguisher checks, ) and makes changes as necessary for the purpose of providing accurate maintenance of safety and convenience in the building setting.
- Reports for duty as required in the event of an emergency school closure for the purpose of maintaining a safe environment and providing appropriate protection for the facility.
- Maintains a schedule, in conjunction with the building administration, of events for the purpose of ensuring that custodial needs are met.

Qualifications:
Any combination of education, experience, and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities.
Experience Required: Prior job related experience with increasing levels of responsibilities, preferably in school or institutional setting;
Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:
Skills to: use cleaning agents; supplies and equipment; perform basic math to calculate accurate dilution of cleaning agents;
Knowledge of: methods and use of cleaning materials, equipment, and supplies, safe work practices;
Abilities to: stand for prolonged periods, follow oral and written instructions, adhere to safe work practices, work independently with minimal supervision, perform a variety of tasks, adjust to flexible assignments often with short notice, and communicate with students, staff and parents;
Significant Physical Abilities include: lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling, stooping, reaching/handling, near/far visual acuity/depth perception.
Education and Training Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Licensing/Special Requirements: Oregon Fingerprint and Criminal Check clearance.
Work Shift: 260 days per year, Monday-Friday, Day Shift: 6:00 am - 2:30 pm
