Who We Seek
We are seeking a Survivor Mentor to expand our Legacy Mentoring Program and provide one-to-one support to adolescent youth who have been commercially sexually exploited. Survivor Mentors work directly with the youth and are responsible for in-person contact with the youth in the home and in the community on a regular basis. Mentors work with multi-disciplinary teams to increase safety and decrease involvement in exploitation. This opportunity requires a person with lived experience as a survivor of commercial sexual exploitation as an adolescent or young adult.

Key Areas of Responsibility
  • Provide one-on-one support and mentoring to adolescent youth who have been commercially sexually exploited. This support will include weekly, biweekly, or monthly meetings (depending on where a youth is in recovery) with each meeting lasting 1-3 hours. Contacts may occur wherever the youth lives (including in group care, a juvenile justice facility, foster home, family setting, and/or in the community).
  • Provide written documentation of each contact with your assigned youth using designated reporting forms and data collection forms.
  • Work collaboratively with other mentoring team members in developing an appropriate support service, education, and treatment plan for each assigned youth.
  • Work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams, including law enforcement to enhance each youth’s safety and ability to aid in a prosecution, when appropriate.
  • Attend supervision meetings with Legacy Program Coordinator as well as staff meetings
  • When appropriate, co-facilitate exploitation prevention groups with adolescent youth in schools, group homes, etc.
  • Attend trainings as required for position and/or to promote professional development. Track hours to provide to supervisor as requested.
  • Additional assigned duties as needed or requested by supervisor that fall within the scope of the position

Who You Are
You are someone with a personal interest in, and commitment to, working with adolescent youth. You have a positive attitude and belief in the hope of recovery from commercial sexual exploitation for youth. You can work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team, and demonstrate and promote cultural competence, awareness, and respect for diversity.

Requirements

  • A significant length of time in recovery from sexual exploitation
  • Experience and knowledge working with LGBTQI youth, preferred
