We are seeking a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to provide comprehensive psychiatric care and lead psychopharmacological treatments for patients with diverse mental health needs.
Position Overview:
As a PMHNP in our outpatient setting, you will conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations, provide evidence-based psychopharmacologic treatments, and offer thoughtful, compassionate care to patients across the care continuum. You will work closely with an interdisciplinary team, contributing to clinical decision-making, quality improvement initiatives, and patient care management. This position offers opportunities for professional growth, research involvement, and both receiving and providing supervision for clinical practice.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and consultations
- Provide direct care, counseling, and teaching to patients and families based on established protocols
- Manage psychopharmacologic treatments and evaluate patient outcomes
- Coordinate care for patients transitioning from higher levels of care to outpatient services
- Provide timely clinical support, including medication refills and urgent appointments
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals and specialists to optimize patient care
- Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to develop effective care plans
- Utilize community resources to support patients and families
- Maintain detailed patient records and participate in interdisciplinary care planning
- Ensure clinical safety and refer patients to higher levels of care when necessary (e.g., initiating Section 12 protocol, working with emergency services)
Professional Development:
- Participate in the development and evaluation of nurse practitioner protocols and guidelines
- Take leadership in problem-solving and directing clinical staff
- Stay current on legislation affecting healthcare and the role of nurse practitioners
- Serve on nursing and hospital committees as needed
- Engage in continuous learning and development of your clinical expertise
- Contribute to the education of patients, families, and colleagues through materials, lectures, or publications
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Nursing and completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in Massachusetts with authorization to practice in an expanded role
- Registered with the ANCC or other accrediting body for Nurse Practitioners
- Registered with the State of Massachusetts and DEA for prescription writing
- BLS certification
- At least 2 years of clinical nursing experience in behavioral health (RN), with a preference for 1 year as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner or experience in treating substance use disorders
