Building Maintenance

Hours Mon - Fri from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Evenings for special events a few times year.

The objective of this position is to keep the environment of the school building and grounds safe, comfortable, in working order and aesthetically pleasing. Building Maintenance worker will perform general maintenance and repairs for assigned equipment and facilities. Examples may include repairing drywall, painting, and repairing doors and other building fixtures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Arranges furnishings and equipment (including playground and lunchroom equipment) for the purpose of providing adequate preparations for meetings, classroom/playground activities, meals, and events.
- Inspects facilities, systems and their components for the purpose of identifying necessary repairs.
- Maintains tools and/or equipment (e.g. hand and power tools, cafeteria and athletic equipment, for the purpose of ensuring the availability of equipment in safe operating condition.
- Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
- Keeps sidewalks and walkways clear of weeds, ice, snow and debris.
- Order and maintain supplies of paper goods for bathrooms and classrooms.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community.
- Engage in school-wide summer cleaning program including, but not limited to, stripping and waxing of floors, moving of furniture, and overall cleaning of classroom spaces.
- Ensure building and auxiliary facility doors and windows are appropriately secured and locked at designated times
- Perform and complete all duties assigned through the Daily Work Assignment
- These duties include, but not limited to; dusting, surface cleaning, trash removal, floor cleaning (i.e., dust mop, wet mop, floor scrubber, vacuuming), and toilet and sink cleaning.
- Serve as a point-person for school/community groups during facility events. Ensure facilities are secured and locked in accordance with school safety and security protocols.

The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must perform in carrying out essential job functions (reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions).

- Ability to lift, carry, push, bend and pull objects frequently (up to 30-50 pounds).
- Perceive the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception and provide oral information.
- Manual dexterity to operate business related equipment and handle work with various materials and objects.
- Ability to spend most of the workday standing, lifting, and walking.
- Employee occasionally will work outside in weather conditions.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma. Experiences in cleaning, minor plumbing, minor electric, HVAC, also helpful. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Candidates will need to secure Act 34, Act 151, and Act 114 clearances (Clearance Information). Must have a valid PA driver's license and a clean driving record.
