About the opportunity?
As the Refractory Manager you will be responsible for managing or performing work associated with the demolition and installation of refractory materials into a variety of vessels. The Refractory Manager will need to meet the work and safety expectations set forth at the customer's steel plant as well as set forth by RHIM. The successful candidate will work closely with plant teams and leadership to develop new insightful solutions to daily issues and mitigate risk.
Your tasks will include but not limited to the following:
- Direct oversight of hourly employees on a daily basis
- Responsible for assigning and monitoring the completion of daily work.
- Provide professional and timely communication to managers and the client.
- Installation of brick and refractory lining into a variety of equipment
- Develop understanding of the maintenance and building slide gates for both ladle and tundish
- Capable of quality inspections of the following tasks:
- Welding, cutting, grinding, installing anchors, forming and pouring
- Installation of refractory products using various applications including, gunning and shotcrete applications
- Employee must maintain a clean and safe work environment and enforce housekeeping
- Performs preventative maintenance on equipment.
- Operate equipment and machinery including but not limited to forklifts, overhead crane, skid-steer, grant machine and scissor lift.
- Ensuring employees are wearing proper PPE at all times and following all safety rules
About you:
In addition, you have:
- Independent worker and self-starter, who contributes to the overall team objectives
- Advanced communication skills and after-hours availability
- 5 years refractory work experience preferred but not required
- High School Diploma / GED
- Relevant educational background eg. Refractory or Masonry qualification preferred
- Welding, masonery, use of hand tools, forming & pouring; practical experience is advantageous
- Refractory installation experience a plus
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Ability to generate and submit reports and maintain records.
