As a member of our People & Culture team, you will serve as a cornerstone of support for employees at every stage of their journey with Rhino, starting from their initial recruitment interactions through to onboarding, ongoing support, performance management, and career development within the company. You will serve as a strategic partner to our various departments, providing expert guidance on HR-related matters and driving initiatives to support Rhino’s operational goals. This role will work closely with the People & Culture team to deliver best-in-class service across the business for all our employees focusing on maintaining positive employee morale and managing workplace issues.


What you’ll accomplish:


Recruitment

  • Lead recruiting efforts, including posting open positions, tracking applications, conducting phone screenings, scheduling interviews, and developing interview criteria and hiring plans.
  • Assist supervisors in identifying staffing needs, reviewing job descriptions, setting pay ranges, and making equitable salary offers.
  • Build strong relationships with community organizations, staffing agencies, state and local service providers, and other businesses to maintain candidate pipelines and promote career opportunities. 

Onboarding

  • Manage and support new employee orientation activities in collaboration with other internal departments. 
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for new hires throughout the onboarding process.  
  • Collaborate with supervisors and hiring managers to ensure onboarding support and new hire check-ins are conducted. Support employees, supervisors, and managers with the completion of related new hire forms.
  • Act as a liaison with temporary employment agencies to support smooth transition and onboarding for new employees.

Employee Relations

  • Support employees, supervisors, and leadership by providing proactive performance feedback, conflict resolution, and/or disciplinary support while identifying solutions to mitigate issues
  • Conduct investigations and resolve employee relations matters fairly and consistently, recommending appropriate actions to the Director of People & Culture.
  • Assist employees and supervisors with the performance management process, including coaching, feedback monitoring, documentation, and overseeing any necessary corrective actions following established processes.

Offboarding

  • Support supervisors and managers in handling terminations in alignment with company policies.
  • Ensure accurate and timely delivery of final pay to exiting employees.
  • Implement and maintain a system for conducting exit interviews and surveys.
  • Retain employment records of exiting employees for the required duration.

HR Information System Utilization

  • Assist employees and supervisors with common HR system inquiries, such as timecards, payroll, and other system-related information.
  • Lead weekly payroll processing, ensuring accuracy and timely completion of all payroll-related tasks.  Manage and update the HRIS maintaining responsibility for employee and position information in accordance with established procedures to ensure compliance with state/federal laws and Rhino policies.
  • Utilize the HRIS as the central system for all personnel data, generating reports and analytics to track trends. Analyze HR metrics to identify areas for improvement and develop proactive solutions.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvements within the HIRS, including exploring new modules and technologies as they become available. 

Culture & Brand

  • Implement employee programs such as leading orientation activities, organizing employee interest groups, or coordinating education, wellness, and social activities that promote Rhino's culture.
  • Support and execute programs that promote Rhino’s culture, including training, wellness, and social activities. 
  • Collaborate with the People & Culture team to foster an inclusive, supportive environment. 
  • Build relationships across shifts and departments to strengthen workplace culture. 
  • Champion Rhino’s purpose, principles, and vision by embodying its values, B Corp certification, and commitment to employee-focused practices in daily activities. 

Operations, Compliance & Strategy 

  • Ensure consistent application of company policies and procedures to uphold fairness and equity, in alignment with Rhino’s principles and federal/state employment laws and regulations.
  • Collaborate with department leaders to understand their goals and develop HR strategies to support them.
  • Stay current on employment laws and regulations, making recommendations to ensure compliance and mitigate risk.
  • Lead or support HR projects and initiatives that improve organizational effectiveness and employee engagement.
  • May perform a variety of tasks that directly contribute to Rhino Foods but may not directly relate to the primary duties and responsibilities of the job.  

Requirements

What you'll need to succeed:  

  • Bachelor's Degree is preferred 
  • 2 years of progressive experience in human resource management preferred.
  • SHRM-CP or PHR certifications preferred.
  • Experience utilizing HR Information systems, experience with Paylocity preferred. 
  • Experience with HR best practices including talent management, employee relations, performance management, compensation, benefits, and HR legal compliance.

Flexibility is essential in Rhino’s ability to respond to short-term demands and ensure smooth operations during busy times. You may be required to work outside normal business hours, nights, weekends, or at another Rhino location in order to meet business needs.
