POSITION SUMMARY
The Production Supervisor will provide their team with daily direction, training and development to ensure quality products are produced, minimize or eliminate defects, and maximize efficiencies (people, machines, and materials). They will be responsible for ensuring the team achieves the company’s on-time delivery goals and meeting or exceeding our customer expectations. As a member of the leadership team, they will engage and retain all team members, lead by example, and make continuous improvements. In addition, this position is to provide support and collaborate across the business as needed (i.e., providing coverage for deck leads, molders, trimmers, etc.).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide strong, positive leadership to the manufacturing team that maximizes the company’s operations, efficiencies, and safety objectives.
- Understand/achieve specific company targets. Identify quarterly goals and a path to achieve them.
- Direct and oversee operations for SQCD-P – Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, People.
- Lead by example and work with the team to better understand their role and exhibit our "I can" core value. Will provide coverage for Deck Leads (when needed) to run the day-to-day business operations.
- Hiring, Performance Evaluation & Development
- Responsible for interviewing, hiring and new employee on-boarding for new-hire success and integration on to the team.
- Evaluate manufacturing operations staffing and skill set using a training matrix. Create a plan to address talent gaps, when needed.
- Complete performance reviews and salary evaluations in a timely manner. Make recommendations for team and individual recognition rewards.
- Responsible for discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with company policy.
- Facilitate production staff training each quarter to ensure ongoing development in cycle time maximization, minimize defects and rework, meet on-time delivery goals, and meet customer expectations.
- Identifies Continuous Improvement projects that align with company goals and submits them to the Continuous Improvement Committee and/or Continuous Improvement Manager (minimum of 6 per year)
- Participate in creating work instructions for standardization and repeated success.
- Collaborate with First Article team to ensure the first article run is completed on-time and correctly per the work order and first article process guidelines.
- Monitor overtime per the company’s policies to ensure the company controls costs and promotes efficient operations.
- As a safety leader ensuring everyone is working in a safety-conscious manner, taking necessary precautions to keep self and co-workers safe, including, but not limited to, the following:
- Maintaining a safe and clean work environment.
- Identifying and resolving safety concerns
- Providing recommendations to staff and management on safety issues and/or work-related injuries.
- Participate in corrective and preventative action activities.
- Performing accident investigations as needed.
- Responsible for all productivity, scrap, and rework within assigned production area, including but not limited to the following:
- Review daily production and scrap reporting and take appropriate action to continuously improve.
- Work with Leadership Team on recurring molding issues, root cause analysis, correction(s), corrective action, and validation.
- Take ownership of reducing scrap and ‘first part good part’ initiatives.
- Work alongside Master Scheduler and Production Planner and be accountable for completing work orders correctly. This includes,
- Ensure order quantities are met prior to taking a tool off the machine.
- Provide the Deck Team Lead the correct work order for each job.
- Completing all orders with no unplanned over runs.
- Ensure that the Mold Production/Maintenance Log is completed accurately for each production run.
- Packaging the product correctly.
- Professional Development: Each member of the Leadership team must complete a minimum of 24 hours of training on/off site per year. This should be tracked by the employee.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND TECHNICAL SKILLS
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree preferred.
- Coursework in Manufacturing Processes, Supervisor Training, or Lean Manufacturing strongly preferred
- 3 years of manufacturing experience, ideally in plastics
- Past supervisory or team lead experience (i.e., Deck Lead or previous Supervisor), preferred.
REQUIRED SKILLS / ABILITIES
- Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to read, create, and understand work instructions and procedures and read prints.
- Must have mechanical aptitude, good attention to detail, ability to perform basic math computations and computer data entry.
- Ability to use measuring devices (calipers, etc.) and hand and power tools (drills, etc.).
- Good visual ability to detect quality defects.
- Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read and interpret operating manuals and engineering standards.
- Must be a Change Agent and open and flexible to changing priorities
- Able to multi-task, establish priorities, and follow through.
- Able to create and execute plans.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time.
- Comfort and ability to be exposed to shop elements such as noise, dust, odors, heat and cold.
