Purchasing Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY

The purpose of this role is to provide both internal and external customers with the highest quality support and timely delivery of materials while maintaining accurate inventory controls. He/She will negotiate with vendors for the purchase of assigned commodities. They should provide the most up to date information to the vendor and material delivery information to the operations team.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Collaborates with sourcing coordinators, project managers and sales managers
• Effectively communicates the status of material lead times to allow for project scheduling
• Creates and maintains relationships with vendors and negotiates with them for goods and services, negotiating the best possible price and service guarantee.
• Develops new supply sources as needed.
• Examines bids and makes awards.
• Establishes account/credit and terms.
• Reconciles invoices, receivers, and payments when needed.
• Contact vendors to obtain material order status, tracking and traces delinquent arrivals from purchase orders.
• Resolve time sensitive material requests by leveraging many different sources to procure material using the most cost effective methods.
• Responsible for upholding system integrity related to purchasing and inventory activities.
• Work with sales and operations to develop and maintain sales forecasts to ensure the availability of raw materials then manage inventory levels through all purchasing cycles to ensure availability.
• Travel less than 10% for vendor meetings, which may include international travel, in addition to potential Professional Development training.
• Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND TECHNICAL SKILLS

• High School diploma, or equivalent. College degree preferred.
• 2 years' experience in Manufacturing and/or Warehouse setting

SOFT SKILLS / ABILITIES

• Team player with excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Critical thinker who approaches problems in a consistent and systematic way to bring solutions that resolve the root problem.
• Solid planning / scheduling skills, with a dedication in meeting deadlines.
• Detail oriented with high degree of accuracy
• Strong ability to forecast using historical usage patterns, a plus.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Outlook

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
• Ability to walk about the facility as needed.
• Comfort and ability to be exposed to shop elements such as noise, dust, odors, heat and cold.
