Position Overview
Essential Duties
- Support the day-to-day operations of and facilitate the tutorial services in the Writing Lab including oversight.
- Support students in understanding assignments, as well as planning, drafting, revising, editing and citing writing assignments
- Engage students in active learning and be able to identify students’ strengths and deficiencies using appropriate tutoring strategies to assist the student
- Develop and nurture rapport with students, peers, and faculty
- Attend training activities to comply with tutoring requirements and expectations before and / or during semesters
- Adhere to tutoring center protocol and use of appointment-making tools (WC Online)
- Provide documentation and analysis of student attendance and performance during tutoring sessions
- Work with Director of Academic Success to increase awareness and usage of the Academic Success Center
- Support in training student tutors through the semester during evening hours or on weekends
- Provide whole class information sessions to inform of services available through the Academic Success Center.
- Demonstrated experience with working with diverse students and learners
- Refer students and faculty to learning and support services on campus as appropriate
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrate competency in use of contemporary computer software including Microsoft Office Suite and
- Assist with other learning assistance projects as assigned
Occasional Duties
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Academic Success
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
Required Qualifications
Education : M.A. in English, Composition, or related field.
Experience : Ability to tutor students in writing and writing mechanics and working in a Writing Lab and successfully overseeing tutors with at least two years of tutoring experience . Ability to coach and support students with learning and study strategies. Demonstrated experience with working with diverse students and learners.
Preferred Qualifications
Understanding of student development theory; tutoring experience; Bi-lingual (Spanish preferred).
