The Assistant Clinical Manager / Program Administrator is a first-line manager who collaborates with the Clinical Manager to direct nursing care, coordinate resources, and perform administrative activities while providing leadership and support to staff.

The role of Specialty Coordinator involves operational, financial, and communication efforts, including :
Reviewing daily schedules of surgical procedures, assessing patient care needs, and assigning staff accordingly.Collaborating with anesthesia floor coordinators to provide timely and appropriate care to add-on patients based on acuity.Coordinating with specialty coordinators to support the development and implementation of department-specific improvements / goals.Ensuring cases start at scheduled times and turnover times are within defined parameters. Providing reports to the OR Committee on a monthly basis.Responsible for efficient utilization of clinical and ancillary staff; monitors overtime and sick time.Participating in the development of department operational and capital budgets with specific emphasis on 'global' needs of the department.Keeping coordinators, staff, and PACU informed of schedule changes and pertinent information in a timely fashion.Keeping anesthesia floor coordinators informed about staff as it relates to completion of the surgical schedule.Informing surgeons about schedule changes impacting their scheduled time.Communicating frequently with patient significant others in the waiting room.Responsible for communicating relevant schedule information with off-shift and weekend staff.Verbal / written communication is simple, direct, and clear.Meets daily / or as needed with the Clinical Manager to communicate daily plans and discuss issues / needs, i.e., equipment, personnel, surgeon needs.Performance Standards :
The Assistant Clinical Manager ensures :
Equipment is maintained in proper working order and that malfunctioning equipment is removed from use and repaired or replaced.Compliance with departmental and regulatory standards, i.e., AORN, Joint Commission.Performing safety checks on schedule, i.e., crash carts, autoclave testing, etc.Daily clinical assignments based on staff level of experience and patient acuity.Assignment of staff to projects / committees to support department strategic and quality plans and follows through to ensure completion.Investigating and documenting concerns regarding personnel.In collaboration with the Clinical Manager, counseling staff when requested / indicated and implementing disciplinary steps when appropriate.Has input into hiring / terminating staff; performs performance reviews for all ancillary staff and has input into clinical staff evaluations.Responsible for ensuring appropriate, timely, and accurate use of incident reports, collating reports, and developing a monthly report.Assists with developing / maintaining policy and procedures.Recognizing trends and discusses trends with the Clinical Manager.Management Commitment is visible, accessible, and credible, builds positive working relationships.
