What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Lab Quality and Business Operations position at Rhode Island Hospital?

We are seeking an experienced Director of Lab Quality and Business Operations to lead our quality assurance, quality control, proficiency testing, quality training and standardization compliance for laboratory services at Rhode Island Hospital.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Laboratory Director to establish and monitor the overall quality strategy and approach based on results of quality investigations
- Develop and implement the Total Quality Plan, including quality control initiatives for all departments
- Determine causes of quality issues, concerns and/or adverse events through root cause analyses and ensure corrective actions are taken to rectify any issues
- Oversee Lab compliance with all regulatory standards, including CLIA, CAP, The Joint Commission and the RI Dept of Health
- Order, receive, review, monitor, proctor and coordinate all phases of proficiency testing and alternative testing
- Oversee internal audit processes, external assessments, proficiency testing programs, document control systems, competency assessments and other quality processes
- Develop training and other in-service programs and materials for directors, managers and staff
- Assist division/section chiefs in establishing faculty-related productivity goals for clinical research and academic activities, revenue and operational and service quality efforts
- Develop and manage the department’s operational and capital budgets
- Support efforts for recruitment and retention of faculty, including business plans for new programs and positions and drafting offer letters
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in scientific field (24 credit hours of science-specific course work is required); Master’s degree in business, health administration, chemistry, biology or other medical science preferred
- Certified ASCP, BSBB and PMP preferred
- 5 years of experience in a clinical laboratory, preferably in an academic medical center setting
- 3 years of experience with clinical laboratory quality programs with extensive knowledge of regulations, including CLIA, CAP, TJC and DOH
- 3 years of demonstrated progressive leadership, preferably on an enterprise level
- Previous Research Administrator experience preferred.
