What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Part- Time Building and Grounds Maintenance Staff position at Rhode Island Zoological Society?
Roger Williams Park Zoo is currently recruiting for part-time, seasonal, Buildings & Grounds Maintenance Staff. The Buildings & Grounds Maintenance Staff are responsible for the custodial, repair, maintenance, and landscape activities for Roger Williams Park Zoo and Carousel Village. Employees in this role generally work during our peak season from April through Labor Day.
Responsibilities:
- Provide professional cleaning and maintenance of all public and private restroom facilities withing the zoo.
- Litter removal in all public and private areas excluding animal areas.
- Recyclable and trash removal and hauling, liner replacement, and cleaning all receptacles on a daily basis and as needed.
- Special event setup, decorating and take down as requested.
- Plan daily work assignments and break schedules.
- Completing work orders in a timely manner.
- Sweeping and edging of all pathways.
- Cleaning and maintenance of Marco Polo moat.
- Light bulb replacement.
- Fixture repair.
- Painting and touch up painting.
- Cleaning floors.
- Rug cleaning and maintenance.
- Maintain clean viewing glass throughout the zoo.
- Maintain an hourly bathroom check in all areas throughout the zoo.
- Wall and ceiling cleaning,
- Proper storage of janitorial equipment and supplies, maintaining well stocked, clean and organized supply closets.
- Maintain a clean dumpster.
- Ability to help with crowd control during organizational events.
Required Experience, Education, and/or Training:
Required Experience and Education:
One year experience in a cleaning environment.
Preferred Experience and Education:
Recent experience working with diverse populations and fluency in speaking additional language a plus.
Competencies:
- Extremely strong skills in verbal and written communication, research, and customer service.
- Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively.
- An appreciation for RWPZ’s mission and commitment to education and conservation.
- 24 hour on-call availability for Zoo emergencies, including storm response.
- Successful completion of a background check, per organization policy.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Willingness to work flexible work schedule, including occasional evenings, weekends’, and holidays. This includes Zoo Events, such as: Return of the Dinosaurs, Zoobilee, Brew at the Zoo, Food Truck Friday, and Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Required to stand, walk, lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds throughout the zoo to set up for events.
