Job Title: Conservator – Historic Landmarks & Artifact Relocation
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Conservator to ensure the protection and preservation of historic landmarks and artifacts during relocation. The ideal candidate will have expertise in conservation techniques, risk assessment, and materials science to safeguard cultural heritage. They will collaborate with preservation specialists, engineers, and logistics teams to develop and implement strategies that prevent damage during transport and reinstallation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess the condition of historic landmarks and artifacts before relocation.
- Develop and implement conservation plans to minimize risks during transport.
- Recommend appropriate packing, crating, and handling techniques.
- Work with engineers and logistics teams to ensure safe movement and reinstallation.
- Conduct on-site monitoring and environmental assessments.
- Perform stabilization treatments when necessary.
- Document all conservation efforts and report on artifact conditions pre- and post-move.
- Ensure compliance with local, national, and international preservation standards.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Conservation, Historic Preservation, Museum Studies, or a related field.
- Experience in artifact handling, restoration, and preventive conservation.
- Knowledge of materials science, structural integrity, and climate control for preservation.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work with interdisciplinary teams and manage logistics.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification from a professional conservation organization.
- Experience with large-scale historic structure relocations.
- Familiarity with 3D imaging or digital documentation techniques.
