Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Master Mechanic to oversee the maintenance, repair, and optimization of a wide range of heavy construction equipment, including excavators, bulldozers, loaders, cranes, tunnel boring machines (TBM/MTBM), and more. The Master Mechanic will serve as a technical expert, ensuring all equipment operates at peak performance while mentoring junior mechanics and maintaining high safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnose, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on all types of heavy construction equipment, addressing mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic issues.
- Oversee complex repairs, including engine overhauls, transmission rebuilds, and hydraulic system troubleshooting.
- Develop and implement maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and extend equipment lifespan.
- Interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic tools to resolve equipment malfunctions efficiently.
- Train and guide junior mechanics and operators on proper equipment use and maintenance techniques.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, manufacturer specifications, and company policies during all maintenance activities.
- Maintain detailed records of repairs, parts inventory, and service histories for all equipment.
- Collaborate with project managers and site supervisors to prioritize repairs and support operational needs.
Qualifications:
- Extensive experience (5 years preferred) as a mechanic working on a diverse range of heavy construction equipment.
- Expert-level knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical circuits, and heavy machinery components.
- Proficiency with advanced diagnostic tools, welding, and fabrication methods.
- Ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings, blueprints, and service manuals.
- High school diploma or equivalent; advanced technical certification or trade school training strongly preferred.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and manage a team.
- Physically capable of working in demanding environments, including lifting heavy parts and operating in confined spaces.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with specific equipment brands (e.g., Caterpillar, Komatsu, Liebherr, Hitachi, etc.).
- Certification in heavy equipment repair or related fields (e.g., ASE, manufacturer-specific credentials).
- Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
