The selected candidate will be responsible for upholding the highest standards of radiation safety, ensuring quality assurance, calibrating equipment, and maintaining regulatory compliance. As the departments senior physicist, the Chief will directly supervise medical physicists, dosimetrists, and radiation therapy technologists to guarantee seamless patient care and technical accuracy.This position is contingent upon award and provides a stable long-term opportunity. It has the potential for multi-year contract renewals and offers the opportunity to serve our nations veterans in a state-of-the-art medical facility.Key ResponsibilitiesLead and oversee the Radiation Oncology Physics Program, ensuring compliance with ACR AAPM NRC NHPP ASTROAPEx and TJC regulations.Supervise, train and manage medical physicists, dosimetrists and radiation therapy technologists.Ensure accurate calibration acceptance testing and commissioning of all radiation therapy equipment, including Varian TrueBeam Linear Accelerators with BrainLab accessories.Implement and manage a Quality Management Program QMP for radiotherapy, ensuring treatment accuracy and radiation safety.Collaborate with radiation oncologists, medical dosimetrists, and treatment teams to optimize patient treatment plans.Develop document and maintain treatment protocols and policies for radiation therapy techniques such as IMRT IGRT, SBRT SRS, and VMATPerform and oversee acceptance testing and quality assurance QA of treatment planning software, ensuring compliance with industry standards.Track and evaluate quality assurance reports for the Radiation Safety Committee and participate in quarterly safety meetingsEnsure adherence to national accreditation standards set forth by the American College of Radiology ACR the American Association of Physicists in Medicine AAPM and the National Radiation Oncology Program NROP.Lead radiation safety training programs and act as a subject matter expert in radiation protection protocols.Coordinate equipment maintenance and updates, ensuring seamless operation of radiotherapy technology.Prepare and submit required regulatory documentation and maintain compliance with federal, state, and VA policies.Required QualificationsEducation PhD in Medical Physics or a closely related fieldBoard Certification Certified in Medical Physics or Therapeutic Medical Physics by the American Board of Radiology ABRExperienceFive-plus years of post-board certification experience in medical physicsThree-plus years of recent experience in an ACR or APEx-certified healthcare systemExpertise in Varian Linear Accelerators Eclipse Treatment Planning System ARIA Record and Verify System and Image Guided Radiation Therapy IGRTProficiency in IMRT QA MapCheck and ArcCheck systemsSuccessful completion of at least one linear accelerator commissioning projectCopy of ABR Board Certification in Medical Physics or Therapeutic Medical PhysicsList of professional references with a minimum of twoPreferred Skills and AbilitiesStrong leadership and mentorship abilitiesExpert knowledge of radiation safety regulations and compliance standardsExperience with federal and VA healthcare systemsExcellent technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skillsAbility to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teamsWork Environment and BenefitsPaid Federal Holidays Paid Time Off PTO and Sick LeaveProfessional development opportunities within the VA healthcare systemStable long-term employment with potential contract renewalsLocation : VA Long Beach Healthcare System VALBHS Tibor Rubin VA Medical Center Long Beach CAJob Type Full Time 40 hours per weekSchedule Monday Friday 800 AM 430 PM Option for 10-hour shifts 700 AM 530 PMAnnual Hours 2080 hours or FTE 1-Compensation Competitive salary based on experience
