Full Time Medical Laboratory Technician
Rice Community Healthcare seeks a Full Time Medical Laboratory Technician in our Lab Services Department at Rice County District Hospital. The onsite laboratory performs a wide variety of tests to assist medical providers in the diagnosis, treatment and management of disease and illness. Conveniently located in Lyons, the full-service laboratory is used for specimen collection and analysis, with the ability to process orders from any provider licensed in the state of Kansas. We utilize the latest technology to accurately analyze a patients lab work and send the results to the provider as efficiently as possible.
JOB SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the laboratory manager, performs clinical laboratory procedures, quality assurance, and instrument maintenance. The Medical Laboratory Technologist also maintains cooperative working relationships with intradepartmental and interdepartmental personnel. This is a full-time position consisting of: 4 days a week with alternating days off (6:30 a.m. 5 p.m. with 30 min lunch), paid on-call 1 night a week and 1 weekend a month (5 p.m. 6:30 a.m.), rotating holidays (paid 1.5x).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Performs routine and special laboratory tests.
Calls critical test results to physicians or nurses immediately and according to established criteria.
Performs preventative maintenance and troubleshooting
Observes and follows department preventive maintenance schedules
Provides in-service training to other other laboratory personnel and students
Contributes to the general laboratory functions and institutional needs
Performs other duties as assigned
REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Must be able to lift 50 pounds unassisted
Must be able to discern colors and hues
Able to take direction over the phone and perform maintenance
Adequate computer and verbal communication skills
Must be able to do phlebotomy for an extended period of time
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Associates degree and successful completion of Medical Laboratory Technology program that is accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA) or equivalent training, education, and experience
Preferred ASCP certification or equivalent nationally recognized Medical Laboratory Technician
Bachelors of Science Degree with an interest in healthcare.
