Sheriff Deputy Patrol provides law enforcement services to the residents of Rice County to include criminal patrol, investigation and follow-up on crimes committed or reported, and enforcement of traffic, water, hunting, fishing, recreational vehicle and park regulations, rules and statutes. The Sheriff Deputy Patrol performs other related law enforcement activities or orders of the court within Rice County and elsewhere in the State of Minnesota, where mutual aid agreement exist, to protect and serve 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The Patrol Deputy carries out duties in conformance with Federal, State, County and City laws and ordinances. There is a duty to perform all of the above in an increasingly hostile environment against law enforcement.
This position requires an Associate’s degree in Criminology, Sociology, Psychology or related field and successful completion of Law Enforcement Skills Field Training Program at an accredited facility, or equivalent as mandated by POST (or be eligible for licensure by POST). Must be licensed as a peace officer in the State of Minnesota. Valid Driver’s license is required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Two years previous law enforcement experience is preferred. Bilingual (English/Spanish); 4 year college degree, any other related experience or certifications.
HOURS: Generally, 11 & 12 Hour Rotating Shifts- 6am, 5pm, 6pm, and 7pm
HIRING RANGE: Pay range $37.14 - $40.51 per hour. Starting step in hiring range negotiable based on experienced.

- Patrols Rice County to preserve the peace and serve the public.
- Enforce, when applicable the law, ordinance or regulation.
- Investigates crimes, apprehends criminals and testifies in court as required.
- Attends training classes and completes qualifications necessary to maintain Peace Officer license and other certifications.
- Performs a variety of duties to assist other county, state and federal agencies.
- All other duties as assigned or apparent.
