What are the responsibilities and job description for the Transport Officer (on-call/part-time) position at Rice County?

A majority of the time is spent either transporting subjects or sitting or standing while providing security in the Courthouse and Government Services Building. Staff may have exposure to injury, trauma, angry or violent individuals, blood-borne and air-borne diseases, traffic accidents, visual and emotional trauma, and adverse road and weather conditions. Incumbent must be prepared to physically restrain, subdue, or fight with one or more persons.
Provides law enforcement, courthouse and facility security services and transport services to the citizens of Rice County to include; courthouse security, transportation of subjects to and from correctional facilities, foster homes, juvenile facilities, mental health facilities, medical facilities and courthouses. May assist with traffic details, community celebrations, or other special events as described. Performs other related law enforcement activities or orders of the court within Rice County and elsewhere in the State of Minnesota, where mutual aid agreements exist, to protect and serve 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Carries out duties in conformance with all federal, state, county and city laws and ordinances. |
- Transports detainees, juveniles, or the mentally ill that were arrested in other counties or cities on Rice County charges, warrants, or by order of the court to the Rice County jail or other locations as deemed necessary.
- Provides security in the Courtrooms and surrounding areas of the Courthouse, including security in the Government Services Building and/or Jail.
- Provides reception security for the Government Services Building, as assigned.
- Provides security for detainees being detained at medical facilities.
- Assists Deputies or other Officers with security at crime scenes.
- Assists Deputies or other officer with traffic control at crash scenes, special events or as needed to provide the safe flow of traffic on the roadways within the county.
- Testifies in Court of Law as arresting officer in criminal and civil matters whenever needed.
- Attends training classes and completes qualifications necessary to maintain POST license and other required certifications, as required and assigned.
- Maintains a professional appearance and code of conduct in accordance with department policy.
- Assists with other duties and tasks, as needed.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: The position requires a High School Diploma or equivalent, and a valid Driver’s license.

HOURS: Part-time/On-call variable hours. Business hours are Monday through Friday 8:00am – 4:30pm. May be occasions where there are night, weekend, and holiday hours.
HIRING RANGE: Pay range $24.98 - $27.25 per hour. Starting step negotiable based on experience.
