Position Summary:

The Rice Office of STEM Engagement is seeking a K-12 Student Initiatives Administrator to administer K-12 student programs and initiatives. They will administer the daily operations of the assigned program(s) which includes responsibility for three or more key program related functions: program operations, student support and recruitment, budget and financial, human resources, events, outreach and communications.

Ideal Candidate Statement: 

The ideal candidate for this position will have a strong background in program administration, specifically in managing K-12 student initiatives. They should demonstrate an ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, paying close attention to detail while maintaining excellent organizational and time management skills. A solid foundation in data analysis, budget management, and financial planning is essential, as the role requires both daily operational oversight and the development of long-term financial strategies.

This individual will also possess strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to develop and nurture program partnerships and funding sources. Familiarity with outreach activities, including recruitment efforts, marketing, and event coordination, is key. Knowledge of Microsoft Office and the ability to quickly learn new tools and strategies will ensure success in handling the day-to-day logistics of student programs.

While the ability to work independently is important, the ideal candidate should also be a collaborative team player, able to support faculty, staff, and students alike. Experience managing student programs, especially within after-school or summer settings, is preferred, as is a demonstrated ability to handle pressure while meeting deadlines and schedules.

Workplace Requirements: 

Hybrid position: “This position is offered as a hybrid role, combining both in-office and remote work to provide flexibility and support collaboration. [Insert hybrid schedule]. Per Rice policy 440, work arrangements may be subject to change.”

Annual Hiring Range: $58,656 to $60,000

*Exempt (salaried) positions under FLSA are not eligible for overtime.

This position is funded by a grant, soft and/or restricted funds. Continued employment is contingent on the renewal of funding.

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 1 years’ experience in education and/or program coordination
    • In lieu of the education/experience requirement, additional related education and/or experience, above and beyond what is required, may be substituted on an equivalent year-for-year basis.

Preferences:

Knowledge of coordinating and managing student programs either after school or during the summer is preferred.

Essential Functions:

  • Administers the daily operations of assigned program(s) with general guidance of a faculty member or a senior staff member
  • Conducts research, analyzes data, identifies trends and develops reports
  • Plans and monitors annual project budgets, assists in the development of longer terms budget plans
  • Recommends and implements outreach plans, including communications, events, marketing, conferences, etc.
  • Plans and coordinates logistical aspects of recruitment activities
  • Provides support to faculty, staff and students as related to the program
  • For academic programs, may assist with graduate student recruitment and admissions, student records, curriculum support, coordinating the accreditation process, managing scholarships and fellowships, and monitoring student progress. 
  • Performs all other duties as assigned

Additional Functions

  • This position will assist with outreach events within the Greater Houston community and R-STEM K-12 teacher programs on an as needed basis.
