Position Summary:
Rice University Police Department is seeking THREE Parking Enforcement Officers to enforce the Rice University traffic and parking regulations throughout the campus. They will act as an ambassador for the university, providing directions, explaining parking regulations to visitors and members of the community, and assisting individuals in complying with the traffic and parking regulations.
On campus position: This position is exclusively on-site, necessitating all duties to be performed in-person at the Rice University Main Campus. Schedule may vary to fit the needs of the department and/or campus to include nights and weekends. Per Rice policy 440, work arrangements may be subject to change.
This role is classified as a non-essential position, but it requires on-site presence to effectively carry out its vital functions.
Hiring Range: $15.72/Hour (40 hours a week; eligible for overtime)
Schedule: weekend, nights, work schedules are set and there will be casual overtime.
Minimum Requirements:
- No experience required
- Licenses / Certifications: Valid Texas Driver's License (or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment) required with no more than three moving violations within the past 36 months and no convictions or deferred dispositions for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) or Driving Under the Influence (DUI) within the past three years.
- Skills:
- Ability to follow policies and procedures and systems and use appropriate terminology associated with patrolling and enforcement activities
- Ability to work within a collaborative environment
- Good listening, verbal and written communication, judgment, decision making and time management skills
- Ability to handle a variety of situations in a professional and civil manner
- Ability to know when to escalate an idea / issue
Preferences

Physical Demands:
- Must be able to see, hear, and communicate clearly; must be able to walk and use stairs
- Must be able to operate campus vehicles and electric powered golf carts
Essential Functions:
- Patrols the parking lots, parking garages, and roadways of the campus to identify vehicles not in compliance with the university’s traffic and parking regulations and takes appropriate enforcement action when a violation is observed
- Writes citations by hand or by a handheld electronic ticket writer (computer).
- Provides members of the university community and visitors with many forms of information about the institution and directions (including information relates to contract and visitor parking locations and fees, explanations of citations and vehicle immobilizations, and event parking)
- Installs and removes parking immobilization devices on vehicles that have excessive parking violations
- Coordinates towing of vehicles that have been banned from parking on campus or are parked blocking traffic
- Prepares the appropriate documents to track immobilizations and towing of vehicles
- Identifies and reports traffic hazards, missing traffic and parking signs, as well as equipment, surveys parking lots, and collects usage data
- Performs all other duties as assigned
