STATUS: Exempt

REPORTS TO: General Manager – MGI Grain Processing
POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of RiceBran Technologies’ MGI Grain Processing subsidiary in East Grand Forks, MN; where MGI provides high-quality grain products to its customers and operates with a culture focused on safety, customer service, performance, teamwork, and continuous improvement. The General Manager will support MGI’s corporate vision by leading by example and inspiring local team members with a high energy combination of a strong work ethic, engagement, collaboration, and integrity. The MGI General Manager is expected to effectively engage and successfully represent MGI to the local agri-business community.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Safety, Health, and Regulatory: Maintain and improve all operations in a safe manner, following all laws and regulations. Lead the local team through successful engagement with MGI’s safety program, ensuring adherence to MGI and Rice Bran Inc. safety initiatives: in written documentation, team actions, and program intent.
  • Quality Assurance: Lead all employees to produce the highest quality products. A process-orientated approach to problem-solving will be needed to support the team in resolving issues, either with external or internal stakeholders. Experience with TQM, 5-S, Six Sigma, or other disciplines would be beneficial. Root Cause identification and corrective action execution are key tenets for success.
  • Grain Procurement and Material Management: Manage local suppliers of barley, oat, and specialty ingredients to achieve MGI’s objectives of cost-effective, high-quality raw material sourcing for its milling process. Effectively negotiate with maintenance vendors, service contractors, and ingredient suppliers. Manage MGI’s co-product sales of its feed optimizing price, schedule, and customer demand.
  • Sanitation and Food Safety: Support and follow GMP’s; design/maintain HACCP programs; develop a world-class facility willing to undergo any 3rd party audit or customer audit. Maintaining facility SQF and Organic certifications is a must.
  • Employee Development: Improve employees’ skills for further opportunities for advancement. Take an active role in the professional development of the MGI team, supporting members’ development congruent with MGI’s business needs and individual career goals. Responsible for staffing needs, scheduling, and retention
  • Operations: Lead and support all operating functions including production planning; customer service, purchasing, process monitoring, reporting, inventory control. Improve MGI processes, increase service quality and efficiencies, reduce costs, provide a desirable work environment. Experience in LEAN manufacturing and reliability-centered maintenance programs is preferred.
  • Continuous Improvement: Knowledgeable of processes to develop and execute improvement initiatives.
QUALIFICATION:
Required Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years in food/food-related industry OR 5 years in grain processing/elevator management
  • Minimum 3-5 years direct supervisory experience
  • Minimum 2 years facility management with a track record of effective safety, cost reduction, efficiency improvements, and PnL support
Required Job Skills:
Must be able to use personal computer equipment and be proficient in MS Word and Excel to support office work and administrative functions. Experience with plant/equipment maintenance programs. Computer literate and an effective team communicator
Minimum Required Education:
High School Degree or Equivalent REQUIRED
Bachelor’s Degree PREFERRED: Agribusiness Management, Engineering, Food Science, or related fields
Agriculture/Food/Grain Handling Experience a Plus
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS, COURSES, OR OTHER TRAINING
  • Safety Training. OSHA/DOT certified
  • Forklift Certification
  • Food Safety/Quality Process Training/SQF
  • Maintenance Certification
  • Team Leadership
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Plant production environment. Exposure to ambient working conditions with the potential for temperature extremes. Ladder ascension/descension etc. Ability and willingness to wear PPE
  • Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs. in a plant environment.
  • Occasional periods of standing and walking through the facility and/or operational support for team members
  • 50% office work
OTHER RELEVANT JOB INFORMATION
Able to interact positively with staff and others from outside the company; must be team oriented and willing to work in a flexible, responsive, fast-paced environment. Compensation and benefits packages will be market competitive to attract and retain talent. English is the primary language spoken at MGI. Bi-Lingual skills are a plus.
