Job Description
Perform all required preventative maintenance. Perform repairs on the machinery in the shipping department. Monitor the machinery and dust systems.
Job Duties
Other duties may be assigned. Responsible for food safety by following HACCP and Food Safety policies/procedures. Responsible for plant safety by observing persons entering your work area, asking if you can assist them, and reporting unauthorized persons to your supervisor. Attend training as required or approved by supervisor.
Job Summary:
Preform all non-operator maintenance on machinery, equipment, and buildings. Assess the department’s maintenance needs and submit requests for personnel. Perform maintenance jobs which require no additional crewing and for which he/she is capable and qualified. Direct/instruct operators in performance of routine operator maintenance on equipment. Insure that all maintenance work is done in compliance with all applicable rules and regulations pertaining to workplace safety, HACCP and Good Manufacturing Practices.
Educational Requirements:
None, but HS diploma or GED is desired. Must be able to read equipment manuals and work requests, write or print legibly, perform all basic math functions, work with decimals, fractions, angles and to calculate ratios and work on computers in a Windows© environment.
Previous Experience:
5-7 years of related work experience or documented vocational training required.
Special Training:
Detailed knowledge of milling and conveying equipment, pumps, boilers, valves, PD blowers, fans, arc and MIG wire feed welding, and ability to read schematics is required. Knowledge of as fired burners, pressure vessels, and grain driers is desired.
Supervision Required:
Works under the general supervision of both the Maintenance Manager and the Department Manager in the area.
Skills Required:
Must be able to follow written or verbal instructions, have significant initiative to create workable solutions where information is limited, work from blueprints or diagrams, and have good communication skills. Must have a high-level working knowledge of mill machinery, conveying equipment and spouting and have basic sheet metal fabrication skills. Must be able to wear safety equipment as necessary, work in close spaces, in dusty environments, at heights of 100 feet or more (indoors or outdoors) exposed to the weather, able to climb (stairs and ladders), move heavy weights up to 100 lbs.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to climb stairs and ladders, work at heights lift /move heavy weights up to 100 lbs., work in confined spaces, ride a manlift vertical belt conveyor.
Specific Job Responsibilities:
Inspect and evaluate equipment, recommend and perform maintenance as necessary.
Evaluate the maintenance needs of the department with regard to tools and equipment required to perform work.
Perform maintenance jobs directly and train others as necessary.
Develop and oversee the progress of scheduled maintenance tasks.
Perform preventative maintenance tasks on equipment.
Help maintain the local tool room inventory and secure all equipment.
Work with Maintenance Manager and Department Manager to prioritize projects.
Lead and supervise the immediate crews to which assigned.
Maintain documentation of all work performed, as needed, to allow for accurate assignment of costs.
Perform work at the highest quality and instruct/lead others to do the same.
Carry a pager or cell phone to assist when needed after hours and on the weekends.
Ensure that all maintenance personnel follow all safety rules, GMP’s and HACCP procedures when performing maintenance tasks.
All other jobs as assigned by supervisor.

One year certificate from college or technical school; or High School Diploma or GED.
