What are the responsibilities and job description for the Corporation Maintenance position at Richland-Bean Blossom Community School Corporation?
Reports to: Director of Maintenance
Length of Work: 8 hour days / 5 days a week / or hours as assigned by Director of Maintenance
Pay: Hourly, non-exempt
Terms of Employment: 12 months, benefited classified position
Education and/or Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid State Driver’s License
- At Least 1-3 months of related experience or training preferred
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following: Other duties may be assigned
- Be familiar with and utilize maintenance manuals provided by equipment suppliers relative to proper settings, maintenance and operation of all equipment in the School Corporation. This includes such equipment as, but not limited to:
- Boilers
- Air-Conditioning Equipment
- Wall Heating Units
- Circulation of air and water throughout the buildings
- Diagnose electrical and mechanical problems, and then make the necessary repairs
- Diagnose plumbing problems and make basic repairs as needed
- Complete work orders as approved by Director of Maintenance
- Account for tools and equipment assigned to each individual or corporation vehicle
- Keep all tools in working order
- On a routine basis, return all trucks and tractors to the Transportation Department for repair and service.
- Observe all laws and standards as set for under IOSHA and AHERA
- Recommend the need for supplies and/or equipment to the Maintenance Director
- Strive to provide a comfortable learning and working environment for students and staff
- Remove snow from playgrounds, sidewalks, and parking lots prior to anyone's arrival
- Maintain security of all equipment and buildings
- Continual education and training of the job
- Maintain a positive attitude and relationship with staff, parents, and students
- Monitor radio for needs throughout the day
- Mow, trim, and maintain grounds and building exteriors
- Any other duties as deemed necessary by the supervisor

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, and multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to calculate amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, volume, etc.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to pass a written and physical test. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community and to treat all individuals in a dignified and respectful manner. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all corporation requirements and policies.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Occasionally the employee will lift and/or move items up to 100 pounds. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables, scaffolds, and cabinets. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works indoors and outdoors. The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
